I've got a home built system with a Core 2 Duo Conroe processor. It's supposed to support 64 bit. However, I'm running 32-bit XP. Are there any considerations I need to keep in mind when going to a 64-bit OS? I hear that I may need to make sure my other hardware has a 64-bit driver. (Nothing is too ancient.) ...I guess the spirit of my question is--are there other pieces of hardware that also need to support 64 bits?

Aside from gaming, I do some hard core number crunching for my job, so this isn't just about improving EQ2.

Greetings,

There really isn't anything special about going to 64-bit. When downloading drivers there will sometimes be different versions for 32/64 bit, but if you don't see a 64-bit version then you're usually fine using whatever's available. The only problem I had so far was caused by an earlier version of AVG. That version of the program didn't play well with 64-bit and caused some problems. I believe that issue has been resolved with current versions, though. Please let us know if you run into any specific issues after converting.

Thx, that's great to hear. I had been putting it off for a while because I was intimidated. But it sounds like it won't be much worse than a regular reinstallation.

Do a full backup of your data and use the migration wizard to assist in moving settings. Other then that, a full format and reinstall is all that is needed, it is a lot faster then Vista or XP install

What 64-bit OS are you planning to use? I assume Windows 7 but I don't see it listed anywhere in your post.
