View Full Version : Movement Issues [Updated, Daniel!]

Okay, so I'm having movement issues. When I'm running forward and hit jump and keep holding down forward, when I land I just stand still. If I turn say left or right even a teeny tiny bit while running in any direction; when I let go of the turn key I stop as well.

Basically W(Hold) and tap Space bar. Still holding W and my character just stands still as soon as he lands. Or I'm running forward(W) and need to turn left a bit so while holding down W I tap A and when I'm done turning I just screech to a halt.

So I've been having trouble moving around. Or been forced to using the movement method where I hold down the mouse buttons and such.

I'd like to be able to move normally. Is this a previously seen error for those running Vista on EQ2? I'm running in administrator mode and I've already tried cleaning my keyboard to see if that was the problem.

Greetings,

It sounds like your computer is restricting the number of concurrent button inputs to one. That is not an issue common to any operating system and I have never seen it reported here. My first instinct would be that it's a problem with DirectX interpreting inputs. I would suggest reinstalling DirectX 9.0c at this point to see if that corrects the issue. Please follow the instructions located on the website below to download and install DirectX 9.0c (March 2009 version):http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...;displaylang=en1. To download, click on the Validate button on the main DirectX page.2. Once verification completes, you will be allowed to download Direct X. Choose the option to save the file to your Desktop.3. Double click on "dxwebsetup" on your desktop, then follow the instructions.

Tried it. It said it detected the same version or a better version. What else do you think would cause this? I appreciate the help so far though, your better wording will make my problem easier to explain to others. "Restricting the number of concurrent button inputs to one."

Does this happen in other games/applications? Are you using a special keyboard that requires drivers like a logitech G-15?

Ask me that a few hours earlier and I wouldn't have had the answer. But I just played Left 4 Dead an hour ago and it was happening there. Fortunately I got carried by my friends!

I'm uh using a... Natural Keyboard Elite(X06-19331 or something like that. Ergonomic. It used to work on my old computer. I was hoping it was a Vista bug with computer games that might've occured before.

Tomorrow I'm going to try switching keyboards and see if that does anything... Man, the last week has been expensive.

A new computer, mouse, monitor, routers and such.

I think maybe it's a lack of software or drivers for the keyboard. Trouble is I can't find drivers on the x64 for my keyboard.

You're tech savvy, know where I can find some? Just asking this now in case I don't find it in my continued search. Gotta keep my bases covered.

Is it one of the huge connections that requires an adapter or is it the regular size?

For the longest time I used an old keyboard that required an adapter to fit a PS/2 because I liked the old style keyboards. Even that one didn't need any special drivers so I don't imagine that yours does. Do you have another keyboards somewhere in your house? I always keep several around but I know most people don't have as many random computer parts in their houses.

Well I haven't found a driver yet. In about a half hour I'll be switching keyboards to see if the driver thing is the problem. If it is, I guess I'm going to have to shell out 40 on Amazon for a newer model in the same line. Natural Ergonomic 4000 or something like that.

The current keyboard is a PS/2 and last week we bought an adapter so it could be used with the tower's USB ports.

I'm assuming you would have tried removing it if that's the case, but its worth checking.

Please let us know if the issue is resolved with a new keyboard.

Yeah, it was the adaptor. We bought a newer copy of the same model and it comes with its own dedicated USB adaptor that downloads it drivers immediately to the computer.

After I restarted the computer the problem was solved, and I'm now enjoying games on my gaming rig. The guild is thrilled to see me back and I can finally resume getting to 80 for the first time.. as a ratonga paladin. Fun!
