I just built myself a new computer about 4months ago, acually right after fanfair, I am the winner of the Nvidia 3d Vision / Monitor, my computer's vid card wasnt supported by the 3d vision. So I went out and built up this computer for eq2, and it runs just as slow if not slower then my older computer. Any advice what I can do to get my FPS above my avg of 12-16fps.

The computer currently contains:

Asus M4N78 ProAMD Phenom 9600 Quad 2.3ghz(2) OCZ Fatal1ty Edition 2GB DDR2 SDRAM 1066PNY Nvidia GTS 250 512mbHitachi 7k1000.b Hard DriveThermaltake Black Widow 850watt Powersupply----------------------------------------------------

Please all I want to do is run this game the way it's designed it's why I bought all this. In balanced mode with NO Complex shaders i get around 20fps, With complex shaders i get around 12, and thats just in balanced, if i go up to very high quality, i normally just crash the system.

Thank you for your help.

What resolution are you running the game at? Also, which version of windows and have you updated the OS and DirectX? Are the drivers up to date?

These are just the basics but they are a good starting point.

Den

Run in window mode on a 22" monitor, i run window mode cause i run dual monitors.

I can copy / paste my dxdiag report if that will make it easier. dont wanna clutter unless it will make things easier.

RIght now i'm running windows vista 32bit, directx 10, and there is an update with my graphics card it came out on the 5th, downloading now, i'll let you know if it helps. If it does not i'll give you guys whatever other informaiton is needed. I just want to enjoy the game 100%.

Thank you for your time,

Ok so updateing my graphics drivers did helps some, but insted my avg being around 9-12fps with complex shaders on, i'm at 17dps...

Thats just weird cause I'm playing on a 7800 gt at the moment and I get around 30fps on balanced most places. I have a 2.83Ghz Core2 Duo processor though. Have you tried turning off shadows? I know on my system the shadows and the flora have HUGE impacts on performance.

Also, vista has dx 10 and keeps it updated for you through windows update but EQ2 uses dx 9 and you need to manually update that in vista. You can get the web updater for direct x 9 at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6a-9b6652cd92a3

Also, try running full screen just to see if there is a difference in fps. I know on my system there is a pretty big difference.

Den

Disable font smoothing (User interface/game windows/first check box - I believe). This should give you a 5-8 fps performance increase.

In my experience, disabling font smoothing only really helps on low end systems. None of the systems I've played on in the last 3 years has seen any kind of performance increase from disabling font smoothing. It did make a 5 to 10 fps difference on my old ati 9800 pro though.

Yeah, it can't hurt to turn it off but the system the OP has should be able to get good performance with font smoothing enabled.

I actually wouldn't recommend using the most recent Nvidia drivers at the moment since they have been causing some issues. I would recommend using the 186.xx version that will be available through the Nvidia driver archives. You can grab that version from the following website:

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find...aspx?lang=en-us

Ok so I had no issues with the latest drivers, acually I was almost happy with my 23-25fps after installing the new drivers. After this last patch we had on, Oct. 28th, I barely able to get to 14fps on extreme proformance.

Maybe I can get an answer as to why I wasted all this money trying to build a decent computer to play eq2 on, and it's basiclly worthless. I'm sorry if i'm coming off as negitive right now, but i think i have a little right. I buy as close to the top of the line products out on the market, to enhance my exp. in this game and i have made it worse.
