Best is too broad of a term. What level of game-play do you plan on doing?

If you want to MT raids someday roll a Guard. Even now that tanks have a more level playing field Guards are still the best MT.

If you want to be an OT or don't plan on raiding roll a Zerker.

If you plan on just playing a solo game don't roll a tank.

Sk's are awesome soloers even though they are fighters. I would rate sk's as top soloing fighter class.

But to get back on subject. Guardians are good tanks but suffer aoe aggro. Very tough and durable. Not the best instance tank (aoe aggro issues), but very nice for raiding if geared and of course played with skill.

Zekers good instance tanks. Non mythed zerkers are decent aoe but crusaders are slightly better. Mythed zerker is a different story. Decent durability and dps. Good for raids as well. Less challenging to play than the guardian.

Yep another Guard that can't play to his potential.

He asked between Warriors so the answer was given. Now if he said what Tank class should I play it would look like this...

Guardian if your main goal is to MT for raids someday.

SK/Pally/Zerk if you plan on OT'ing for raids or just plan on playing group content only.

Solo, again go find another class, probably a caster class, because they by far can solo the best.

I agree, just picking the 2 warriors is stupid in todays game...SOE finally fixed that with TSO. There is a lot more flavor out there and really you need to look at how you plan on playing the game. Some other advice I would give....do not pick a class based on what you hear people say about them today versus how SOE defines them. FoTM classes come and go and odds are by the time you roll a FoTM class up they won't be any longer. Roll a class that fits your play style for the type of content you plan on playing and how you plan to perform that roll.

I can not tell you just how many times I have to explain this to new guild members and players and a lot of the time they just don't get it. I had a long discussion about this just the other day with some friends.

So wait your saying Berserkers cant MT raids? Good to know.

This is aged some but should help.

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=374275

I would like to add that while that link has aged it did at the time offer great info for choosing classes. I feel that the game has gravitated from those statements some and that is why there are issues with the fighter classes currently. It should offer insight as to how a class should be expected to play.

Perhaps the OP needs to further clarify what the real question is?

Best tank amongst the Warriors? or Best tank period?

I would say at this time that Zerk makes a better overall tank than Guard.....but niether would be my choice as best overall tank in the game. Especially if your starting from scratch.

Sadly I would say that if I was to start a new tank from today and planned on being MT or OT in raids, I would go Crusader for sure..

SK's are just so bloody OP with their dps and AoE aggro management, and Pally is just so easymode agrolock..

very hard to look away from those 2 things when creating a tank imo..

Sure Guards/Zerkers MIGHT have a little survivability (Which I'm not 100 % convinced they do), but that is something your healers can take care pretty easy..

In todays game I can't say that the warriors are the toughest when comparing to the crusaders. I can't prove it either. I do think that warriors should have a higher core mech value when it comes to absorbing damage. If crusaders are on the same core mech values combined with their utility/heals then warriors are at a loss.

Imho crusaders are the choice tanks in todays game.

Between the two, I'd go with Berserker as being the more fun class.

Between best tank, I'd vote neither.

Guardian can be really frustaraiting these days. As a MT on raids he do good job on other fileds he fails compare to other plate tanks. Zerker is fun class especially well geared/myth. Crusaders are also fun to play and will stand to all tasks.

Zerk imo. Gear him right and you can do anything. When it comes to MT on hard hitting mobs both pally and zerks beat SKs... Its all about gear these days. At top end i would rate pally or zerk as best over all tank.

Would you mind going into more detail as it is different from many of the people who are posting on these threads and I would really like to learn more about the capabilities of the berzerker in comparison to the other tanks from your perspective.

Pallys have ALOT of mit (like guards). then look at the tools. Pally epic 10% reduction on inc dmg. And a 10% heal. Add up with the highest block (uncontested avoidance) ppl that say heals doesent matter on raids as a pally should quit... Since it might help from time to time. Over all tho pally can mitigate loads of dmg.

Zerks. Zerks have kinda much the same tools a guard have these days.. abit lower mit abit lower avoidance But same as the pally.. at top end kinda much all tanks are high in all def skills. It all come down to the few extra things. AD = 50% dmg reduction. A vertion of Tos and block.

Sure guards still might have better and faster reuse on tools VS spike dmg and stuff. But this is over all tanking...

Aoe.. hate.. dps... and so on.

SK wins abit tho on names that dont hit to hard.

Its all about dps atm sure. But imo a pally makes a better MT than a SK.
