I'm thinking about spending some money on a new gaming laptop, and I'd like to share a tentative setup and see what people think. Is it lacking in any area such that a bottleneck of some kind would keep the various components from reaching their potential? Do you think I could run EQ2 at Extreme Quality, or close to it?

CPU: Intel Core i7 720QMVideo: Nvidia GeForce GTS160M 1gbRAM: 4gb (2 x 2gb) SODIMM DDR3-1333Storage: Intel X25-M 34nm Gen 2 80GB SATA II 2.5inch SSDOS: Windows 7 (not sure which version yet)

Did I leave anything important out there? I've been playing with an SSD for the past year on my current rig, and it's freaking phenomenal for zoning. I even zone into guild halls in a heartbeat.

Thanks for any input!

Greetings,

That computer looks good and should play the game very well. The GTS160M would be the bottleneck in this case but it shouldn't have a major impact on EQ2's performance.

Would you say the i7 720QM is overkill? Will it improve EQ2 gameplay over a Core 2 Duo P8700/8800, say? I know the i7's architecture is a big improvement, but I play EQ2 almost exclusively (I'll play StarCraft II when it comes out, though). So if EQ2 would hit it's max performance with a Core 2, I may just take it down to that and save some cash.

I'm not quite as well versed in the laptop market so I'm not sure about the price vs performance difference between the 2 chips. Generally speaking I like to plan for the future when it comes to CPUs, but it all depends on how much you're able to save by choosing the P8700 chip.
