There were some folks discussing race popularity in another thread. I thought I'd go through EQ2Players for the data. Here are the rankings by number of characters. This data is current as of the post date/time.

Dark Elf -- 462,145

Human -- 396,158

Wood Elf -- 352,918

High Elf -- 343,537

Fae -- 303,336

Half Elf -- 302,166

Kerra -- 290,929

Barbarian -- 270,788

Ratonga -- 217,271

Erudite -- 212,710

Gnome -- 210,433

Arasai -- 200,375

Iksar -- 185,107

Froglok -- 163,834

Dwarf -- 135,771

Ogre -- 124,982

Sarnak -- 102,134

Troll -- 84,671

Halfling -- 77,862

Unfortunately, there's no way to get data for frequency and duration of use (i.e., how often and for how long characters of each race are played) via EQ2Players.

Using the 50+ characters only would be more accurate.
