View Full Version : Why Are Zoning Times Slower Post-GU?

Even a simple zone crossing like an alt entering his a nearly empty 1 (now 2) room house in Gorowyn takes longer post-GU. Or another alt entering the tradeskill zone in Baubbleshire. Places these toons have been many, many times before.

Does the recent "improvement" to downloading content mean that every zone crossing is going to be slower while the system checks to see if it needs to send new content? Is there some way to opt for the old system where you downloaded everything ahead of time and the game played smoother?

I object to the arbitrary moving of this question from General Gameplay Discussion to General Tech Support. This isn't a Tech Support problem. My machine is way above recommended specs with a broadband connection. The problem is a gameplay "improvement" caused by the devs, and not some technical problem specific to this machine. (For that matter, I play on more than one machine, and it happens of whichever machine I'm playing on.)

The slow zoning problem is new, post-GU, and I suspect caused by the "improvements" mentioned in the original post.

Greetings,

I'm pretty sure that this issue is related to the increased memory usage since the recent patch. Rothgar has posted that they are testing a fix and plan to release that in the near future. The main thread for discussing this issue is located here:

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=459319

I've waited several days to give time for SOE to fix the problem. The Hotfixes still haven't prevented long zoning times. I'm posting this while waiting on a 10 minute plus zone crossing to resolve. I have yet another "Waiting for zone server" message on the screen.

It seems nowadays that Station Cash and LON are largely bug free while the part of the game that I pay subscription fees for constantly has new problems. (And no, the problem isn't my computers or internet connection.)

The loading screen appears to be stuck. I'm going to reboot, log back in and try to zone again. I'd be happy to see EQ2 revert back to a pre-GU state undoes the recent set of "improvements."

Addendum: I'm not questioning that Rothgar, Daniel, etc. are doing what they can to fix the problems. I do much appreciate that they're keeping us updated on the problems. What I question is SOE's commitment to EQ2, particularly toward the subscription part of the game that doesn't involve Station Cash and LON.
