Please keep in mind that all given racial ages are from the EQ2 pen and paper game, and do not necissarily reflect the actual racial ages of the races in EQ2 itself.

In fact, there are way too many exceptions to the rule. Squire Fuzzmin for example, should have died 3-400 years ago.

The devs mentioned that lifespans can be extended to great lengths with help from arcane magics...

Vhalen's post on page 2 of this thread is what I mean when i say a "loose" term for ages of races.

no real numbers are given perhaps as more a chance to have characters live far beyond whats expected.

It's been my practice to say that "No Elf has Ever Died of Natural Causes"

How do they keep the population down? Here's my look on things..

War. Elves, though not a war-like race, like the Ogres.. Do find themselves coming to the aid of their allies on a regular basis and yes, dying for a cause you believe in, IS a noble way to pass on. Also their continuing struggle against the Crushbone Orcs have left many laying on the battlefield.

Low birth rates. Elves (high elves particularly) are fragile during pregnancy - and many mothers have died so that their baby may live, or tragically, miscarried. After giving birth (or.. not), the female's body must recover before attempting another - and this time may vary from a few years, until perhaps a life time.

Inter-Species Breeding. Once an elf binds to another race, their offspring cease to be true elves. and therefore, elven blood lines are broken.

That's my view on the Elves, your views may vary.

After the revamp of Everfrost, I seem to recall one of the quest NPCs on the dock saying that Barbarians didn't live nearly as long as humans. I could be wrong, it's been awhile since I've done those quests.

As for Half Elves... I've always wondered why such a short lifespan. A Half-Elf dying young could be outlived by an old Human parent. Just like real life... I would think it'd depend on which parent they took after... giving them one of the widest possible lifespans. Besides, in Qeynos, Half Elves weren't afforded the 'luxary' of having thier age recorded on death, so it'd possible with thier outcast status and the intolerance of the various races, that no one bothered keeping track of how long some of the Half Elves have been around. Eh, but it's just a thought, what do I know?

The Barbarians are the ancestors of Humans, so a shorter lifespan is only natural. As for Half Elves, the Human lifespan significantly shortens the Elven side.

Cant remember if I read it or dreamt it, but didnt Vhalen say something like age can be extended beyond normal expectancies through the use of magic/necromancy?

There's never been an official story that cleared that up once and for all. They all just speculate.
