View Full Version : Abysmal frame rate since GU53

My laptop used to out-perfom my desktop machine easily in EQ2, on extreme perfomance I could get frame rates as high as 110 in non-populated areas.

Now I'm lucky to get 2 or 3.

What boggles me is that straight after logging in, I have an okay frame rate of 35 where the game is definitely playable, but after like 10 seconds it drops down, for about a minute, then back to normal for a few seconds.

What sounds like an overheating issue isn't one, I have verified that. Further measures I took to ensure it's not the machine causing it:

- Deleted cache folder- Deleted options (eq2_recent.ini and eq2_default.ini)

The nVidia Quadro FX2700M that the laptop has, together with the Core2Duo T9600 should easily suffice to run the game on minimum settings.

Any suggestions?

Seems to be common complaint on Splitpaw too. EQ2 is using way more memory than ever before.

Have we received this "fixed" exe file that was sent to the US servers or are we stuck till Monday/Tuesday with poor performance and a memory leak?

We received a patch this morning which seemed to update the .exe file. Spoke to quite a few people yesterday and today that are having serious fps issues, even to the point where they cannot craft in the guildhall My frame rates have dropped, but not enough to make gameplay that bad. It does seem to be effecting those with less memory more. I have a G15 keyboard and the performance monitor on that used to show memory usage at around 45-50% at the most, even when raiding etc.. It now shows a constant 65-75% Im running Vista Home with 4Gb memory at the moment.

The laptop has 4GB of RAM, and the performance issues seem to be confined to guild halls and "outdoor zones", like cities, EF, ...

At least, in Shard of Love it's playable/bearable in a group of four (22 fps with occasionally jerky movement)

There's a memory issue. I noticed the performance hit too ... not that terrible on my machine, but the crashes, on the other hand, are really bad. The fix only partly seemed to correct it, still lots of crashes.

The low FPS (for me and a few others anyway) seems ot be Modded UI related.

We are all using Fetish Ui pack.

If the Ui mod is disabled (type /loadui default ) FPS almost doubles.

I use standard UI and my fps have dropped by 50%. Performance worsens over time to the point my PC just CTD's eventually.

Also it can take over 5 minutes to go from Balanced to any other setting or vice versa.

I am having the same issues. All too often the game simply freezes and I appear to be CTDing but after a few minutes everything returns to normal. What is worse though is when the game freezes my whole computer ,requiring me to manually turn off the computer and reboot, which makes Win 7RC very unhappy. I have the same problems with Profit UI and with the default UI.

Normally it takes like 10-20 seconds max.

Also, since GU53, my system will freeze for 5-7 seconds during various actions and does it quite a lot. It will happen between every 3-5 minutes. After the freeze the system plays normally until the next freeze. I don't get kicked to DT but just freezes occasionally.

My wifes computer sometimes when zoning will get stuck at 99% for "loading entity resources". Then she has to disconnect and re log in.

For zoning with my system, something weird is happening. When I zone and it adds my character to the zone and for a split second I see the zone then the screen goes black and I get the "Loading resources" for about 5-10 seconds then it lets me in.

This was as of Saturday. I haven't played since then.

Anyone seen any improvement?

This only happens when running EQ2.

Ok...I have a core i7 920, GTX 260 vid card and 6 gigs of ram. Before GU 53 I would run high on all settings..not high performance but the visual settings all maxed for the most part and I got no lag anywhere....even using Fetish UI. I would get a minimum of 50 fps and many times 60-70. Now...after GU53 I get 25 fps max. I have tried reverting to default ui and that didn't work. I tried replacing the files that Zonx talked about on the eq2 interface page and that didn't work. Yesterday I bit the bullet and did a complete fresh install of EQ2. NO modded UI...no EQ2 map.....same frame rates of 15-25. I have a 10 meg internet connection and consistently get the 10 meg download and 1.5 - 2 meg upload speeds.

I also crash at least once a day when doing nothing but running around in game.

So my question is that obviously alot of people are having problems but I've seen nothing from SOE stating they are working on it. The day of update they shut down some events on some servers, but that is a week ago now (almost) with no change in gameplay or a message from SOE admitting there is a problem and that they are working on it.

Anyone have any other info?
