Thank heavens I'm not the only one. I found a work around but it only works if you already have the patch from yesterday. Go into computer, and find the everquest folder and use the icon in there to launch the game. Should punt you straight into the spalsh screen and a generic login screen and then your in character select. If you dont have the update from yesterday it will tell you that the client doesnt match the server etc etc.

To start, give these solutions a go as they are the common solutions to the issue you're experiencing. Though, if you still have programs afterward, please let us know.

Fix 1: (Vista Only)1. Right click on Station Launcher icon and go to properties2. Go to the compatibility tab3. Click on "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select XP Service Pack 24. Check "Run this program as administrator"5. Click Apply6. Right Click on the Station Launcher icon once again7. Click "Run as Administrator"Fix 2: (Vista Only)1. Make sure you are logged in on an Administrator account.2. Navigate to the Station Launcher folder (Usually c:program filessonystation will contain the Station Launcher folder)3. Right click on the Station Launcher folder and go to properties4. Click on the Security Tab5. Click on the Edit button.6. Go through each username or group listed and make sure all "Allow" boxes are checked7. Ensure that no "Deny" boxes are checked and click OK.Fix 3: (Vista/XP)1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.

I'm trying to install EQII fresh on Vista 64. If I run the station launcher as administrator it attempts to re-download 3+GB of data. This workaround sucks.

I do hope your game is a lot less buggy than I'm expecting.

Running as an administrator simply allows the launcher to patch the files that were getting blocked before. It doesn't require that you download additional files. You would have had to download that additional 3+GB either way to begin playing the game.

Win7 - 64bit (Station Launcher)

run Station Launcher as administrator, repatch - 5 secs worth of DL

yes, it did phase me too, lol - but gawd do i love win7 now ... apart from the rollbacks and lack of sound, none of the nasties of XP

The problem I'm reporting is that the "run as admin" workaround appears to require performing a signficant download a second time. Basically I download 3GB of patch, get blocked by this copy error, switch to admin and am then thrown into downloading 3GB of patch (again?).

I could be mistaken if the game simply requires multiple 3+GB updates when using these installation disks. That would be dissapointing (I bought the disks to save download time on the demo), but would explain the behavior I saw when running as admin.

I did a fresh install today and things went smoothly. By selecting run as admin the first time the launcher is run (and installing outside program files) I do not see the error.

Unfortunetly it's not a simple case of multiple 3GB downloads. You've got at least one version of the installer that errors out when not run as administrator after a nearly full patch update, and when run as admin it re-downloads the full patch.

So the process for (some) new customers is:

Install DVDs.

Update 1 for 2 hours. (3GB downloaded)

Fail install with copy errors. Google for solutions to the copy problem, run as admin.

Update 2 for 2 hours. (same 3BG downloaded)

I have tried all three options for fixing this problem for Vista. No dice. Any suggestions that do not involve re-installing EQ2?

I'm guessing you have the game installed to the program files directory? Windows places a higher level of security on that folder and that will result in a blocked update under certain configurations. If you move it to somewhere like C:GamesEverquest 2 then that should work around the issue. The other option would be to disable the UAC, which is the security feature that causes this problem. Sadly, I am not allowed to provide the steps necessary to do so, but they are easy to find through a quick google search.
