Starting today with LU 53, I have begun to frequently crash when camping or zoning. The error message I get is "Application ran out of memory when requesting 4194336 bytes (limit: 2048 MB, current: 796 MB)". I notice that there is a years old thread stickied about a similar message and I posted there, but as this is new for me this patch, I want to make sure it gets treated as a new issue.

Anyhows, here is my crashlog. Looks to me like the section I colour below has some clues.

SOEBuild=5905LSOEVersionString=2009/9/21 18:42:43EVERQUEST2 CRASH LOG=============================================== ================================================== =Unhandled exception EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0x00B3C1CFApplication was trying to write to 0x00000002 Region Begins At: 0x00000000 Region Ends At: 0x00010000 Region Size Is: 0x00010000 bytes Memory Protection: PAGE_NOACCESS (00000001) Memory State: MEM_FREE Memory Type: FreeGame Data: SOEBuild: SOEBuild=5905L SOEVersionString: SOEVersionString=2009/9/21 18:42:43 OS Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 VER_SUITE_PERSONAL VER_NT_WORKSTATION CPU: 4 x86 GenuineIntel 2667MHz RDTSC MSR CMPXCHG8 SSE SSE2 DirectX Version: 9.0c Video Card/Driver: [NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT] [nv4_disp.dll] 6.14.11.8585 {d7b71e3e-4562-11cf-3942-0b2000c2cb35} Time at crash: Wed Sep 23 19:59:34 2009 Login Server: none Performance: 7 Game Uptime: 10045 seconds Position last frame: -31.59, 22.00, 248.37 Zone name: exp02_rgn_realm_of_twilight Time in Zone: 17 seconds Previous Zone name: GameScene::ZR_NETWORKED_ZONE_CHANGE Multi-core support: disabled Low-Memory Mode: enabledLog: WARNING - Duplicate cached nodes found for composed/ui_fx/fx/systems/spells/simple/trace_prism.voc (not caching).
I've crashed a couple more times since my first post.
Greetings,

Most of the files indicated as a problem are UI files. Are you using any kind of custom UI with the game? If so, the update may have caused the UI to become incompatible. Check to see if there are any updates available. If there are not, then it might be necessary to remove it temporarily.

Ahh. I'm using the EQ2 Quest Journal UI from here: http://eq2.fluffy.dk/index.php. The old one was broken by LU53, so he released a new one today which I am using. Only mod I do use. I'd better drop him a note, and disable it for now. Thanks.

Edit: Though there doesn't seem to be any contact info on the site. Gah. I had actually checked the xml for the mod for any mention of the files in the log, but couldn't see 'em, but the ways of EQ2 modding are mysterious to me.

I've removed the mod. We shall see if that improves matters.

The quest journal underwent some huge changes with this update so it seems likely, but its hard to be sure.

Nope, still got issues, though the error message is different now. This was with the default UI, but it still seems unhappy about UI in general.

SOEBuild=5905LSOEVersionString=2009/9/21 18:42:43EVERQUEST2 CRASH LOG===============================================
I had a similar issue yesterday after like 4h play on different chars, Vista warned me that my mem was getting low (have 6GB). I then open up the taskmanager and saw that EQ2 had almost taken hold of 3GB of the RAM. Is this normal or do eq2 forget to unload textures when you change zone?

It seems that something in the patch is causing increased memory usage. Autenil posted in the following thread that he thinks he knows what is causing it:

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=459319

Hopefully we will see a fix shortly.

There are NO custom UI modules except for EQ2 maps and that's never had a problem since game release.
We are posting a new version of the EQ2 client EXE file to the patcher very soon. This will fix the problem we have with the memory allocation that is causing these crashes. All you'll need to do is repatch and you'll get the new EXE.

I'll post an official announcement when the new EXE is available.

I am sorry to say that the patch tonight has not stopped my crashing. Memory useage is still completely out of control (With or without the EQ2 Journal UI mod, so I re-enabled it.
Same here. Have rarely ever crashed but all of a sudden Win 7 or Vista no difference client crashes frequently. Was hoping the patch would of fixed it but no luck.

Hope they get this fixed soon cuz I play to raid/group/craft and these crashes have me wanting to finally close my accounts and move on. I don't really want to start a new game again did that once with eq1 and again with dark ages of camelot so really would rather see the crash problem fixed.
maybe this is nothing but I play for quite awhile with 'raid' type of graphics and nothing, when I go to my regular graphic settings, memory error. To many settings to change to try and eliminate what might be causing my memory problem but maybe a someplace to look?

I didn't crash, but today the game started running extremely slow, and when I checked, it was using about 1.6 gb of RAM, up from about 600k normally. Moreover, after minimizing the game (which in most programs empties the memory, and it normally stays low until restoring it), it emptied to 60k, but then quickly climbed back over 1 million before restoring.

Getting this crash on two machines after every hour or so of gameplay. I dont know if this is any use but in the minutes prior to crashing I get a loss of graphics, such as map backgrounds, menu backdrops etc appearing black in a non-predictable pattern.
