View Full Version : AA slider vs disabling combat experience

I did some experiments with the AA slider and combat experience on test copy.

First experiment I set AA slider to 100% and then right-clicked xp bar and selected "disable combat XP". Whacking a dozen zombies I gained no combat XP, but also no AA xp.

In second experiment I right-clicked xp bar and re-enabed combat xp (leaving AA slider at 100%) and again whacked a dozen zombies. I got AA xp but no combat XP.

Fair enough... however some points:

Is it intended to leave the option for disabling combat XP on right-clicking the XP bar?

If so, is it intended that setting this will also block AA xp gain?

And if so, on PvP servers where (to my understanding) you will only be able to drag the slider to 50%, won't you be forced to disable combat XP and therefore also implicitly disable AA gain in order to not level up even if you're only doing PvE questing?

I suggest the following:

Keep the option to disable combat XP

BUT make it so that it does not block AA gain OR provide an option to only block combat XP OR allow the AA slider to be put at 100% even on PvP servers but still force combat XP on pvp kills.

I like to quest even if I'm playing on a PvP server. Forcing me to choose between not be given the new AA gain (through the slider) or having to accept getting unwanted adventure XP would be rather depressing.

I would assume that with the slider at 100% and combat EXP disabled the only thing that would convert to AA would be quest, discovery exp.

however for PvP, just remove the option of exp locking. Problem solved.

There are a few players want to be able to completely disable all XP gain whatsoever. Why, I don't know, but so far SoE has made it possible for them to do so. This does not apply on PvP.

Cause I want to do every single quest available without them graying out. I don't want to disable AA gain though, only adventure XP gain. Which is why I want the slider to go to 100% on a pvp server too, with the fix that adventure xp gained through pvp:ing disregard any setting of the slider.

If on the aa slider you can only get 50/50% on pvp , then [Removed for Content], pvp people get shafted again. Whats with trying to force pvp people to 80(taking away levellocking), then you can't even pvp unless you raid for like months to get the gear to be able to compete. Maybe they shouldn't of even introduced pvp to this game. I hope the 50% percent bs isn't true, because I was def. excited about the aa slider.

I did a little testing of just that for my own edification.

Level 80 brigand mentored to level 20. Forget what the level 20 was. Both accounts linked via Refer-A-Friend. Test Server exp bonus in effect. Went to Firemyst Gully and started slaughtering.

About halfway through the instance my victim was up from 9 AA to 10.5 AA. This is with massive exp bonuses and one of the better zones in the game for fast levelling. Took about 30 minutes. So is it good? Sorta, kinda. But it'll slow massively as AA levels rise, so I'd say generally that except in very special circumstances you're better off just questing, questing, questing. Since this change goes in with Chronomages, you can also grab AA mobs as you see the chance arise. In fact, I have the feeling that some areas with a lot of previously unkilled AA mobs, like EL and PoF, will be barren of said mobs for the first week or two after Chronomagic is released.

One more thought: the way I got my testing victim to 9 AA was to turn in a ton of collection quests with the slider all the way up. Since quests are usually a decent shot of exp, you could keep exp on for kills and pull chunks of AA from quest turn-ins. It'll be interesting to see what happens to collectible availability on the broker due to this.

Either that or let them fight back if attacked, but flag them as "Heroic" so people know they are fighting a Mentored player and not someone at there real level.

Another thing to add...

With the slider all the way to 100, combat and quest xp enabled, I noticed on my Swash (which had been previously level locked for AA gain) that the adventure vitality was being used as well. I figure it's for the mobs killed.
