Hi,

I just installed EQ2 on my son's new PC. He is running Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2. I designated his account as "Limited".

When I try to use Staition Launcher to start EverQuest II, I get the following error in a pop-up dialog box:

"INSUFFICIENT USER PRIVILEGES You must have administrator privileges to run Station Launcher. For potential solutions to this error please visit our Support Site."

I did follow the link to the Support Site, so please don't suggest that. I tried finding a solution there, but had no luck.

Anyone have any idea how to work around this error short of making my son's account an Administrator. I'm scared to do that because he is only 9 years old.

Thanks,

MayneCajun

Unfortunately, that's the way of things these days. He does have to be an admin to use certain features of the PC. Same as if he wanted to say, install something such as a printer perhaps; it might not let him if he wasn't an admin. It's security, and for the "protection" of the PC, data, and all. You might try right clicking the icon for Everquest and designate running (clicking "Run as") the program as admin though. You will see a box that has a choice for current user or another user, and you choose the option for admin, and you'll have to put in a password, then click ok. See if that works. I don't use that as I am admin, but you may have to do it every time he wants to play. I have to check on that, if you can make it permanent.

It has been a while since I have worked with XP on a system where I didn't have admin access, but I think there is a way to work around this.

Try installing the game folder directly to the desktop. The install directory should look something like this:

C:UserstheusernameDesktopEverquest 2

I believe that he should be able to install/play the game if it is installed in that location.

(I knew figuring out how to install Quake 2 on computers at my old highschool would pay off someday)

From what I understand ont eh new station launcher, admin privilege are not required either, out side of installing the launcher. Will have to expierment with it and install everything outside of the program files directory with users that have power users and just user priviliges.

I have not tried installing it using a computer that doesn't have admin privileges, though, so I can't say for sure. Installing it to a desktop folder is something I've actually tried before so I'm pretty sure that will work around the issue.
