This is the dialog with Scholar Al'Quylar during the 'A Strange Black Rock' Heritage quest as requested. I typed it up so that anyone using the search function can find it, and if something happens to the images, we’ll still have it (Also so that it’s easier to read). Screenies to follow.

(I hope it’s alright to put it here, since the discussion was on the stone, the person in it, what happened to the scholar and how it pertained to the Forum Lore Quests. )

***

(When you walk by, Scholar Al’Quylar says "How ever am I going to power this stone?”)

“Hail, Scholar Al’Quylar”

Scholar Al’Quylar:

“It’s this black chunk of marble, you see. I’m quite curious about it, and have been investigating a way to power it.”

“Power it? Why?”

“The stone has strange markings. I’ve traced the markings to ancient magical runes that invoke a spell of warding.”

“Warding? What would the stone ward?”

“I must confess; I’m not certain. It could’ve warded off any number of things in previous ages; things long lost to us.”

“How old is it then? Previous ages? Before the Shattering?”

“I would say so, yes. Likely quite a good bit before. Do you mind helping me research the stone?”

“I could be persuaded to help…”

“Oh, by all means, I’ll pay you for your efforts. While I understand that some people do things out of the goodness of their heart, I think everyone should be concerned with payment for services rendered!”

“Ok, so where do I start?”

“I’ve done preliminary research on what powers the stone, I’ll give you a list of what I need.”

“I’ll see what I can do.”

***After gathering the two power sources from a shipwreck in Thundering Steppes and the pool of Soul Eater Falls in Nektulos Forest:

“Very impressive! I deciphered a few of the runes, and those energy sources may shed some light on my discoveries.”

“What’s next?”

“Originally, I thought the ward kept something out, but now I see that it’s designed to keep something in. I must… yes… I must find a way to open it. Err, in the interest of knowledge, of course.”

“Are you okay?”

“Oh yes, fine. Something must have come over me. A sorcerer named Varsoon did research on this kind of thing; I’ve been reading quite a bit about him lately.”

“What research?”

“I’ve found several references to immortality in the books I’m reading. It seems Varsson was intent on finding a method to indefinitely extend life. I’d like to see if you can find more information inside his ruined laboratories.”

“Very well.”

***After gathering research from ‘The Brown Research Tome on Binding’ and ‘The Black Research Tome of Immortality’ in the Ruins of Varsoon:

“Yes…I believe these notes will do… nicely. I’m certain I’ll unlock the secrets of the stone… soon.”

“Ahem. That’s nice.”

“What do you want?”

“Payment would be nice.”

“Not so fast, wretch. Bring me the finest necklace you can find! I can’t allow my gorgeous stone to rot in this tiny box, it must be borne on my chest and displayed with the finest palladium torque money can buy!”

“You’re serious?”

“Of course I’m serious! Now leave me, and don’t return unless you have my necklace!”

“What’s come over you?”

*** After obtaining a Palladium Torque (or Bangle)

“It’ll do, but that’s about the best I can say. Your work sickens me. You sicken me! I don’t know why I put up with you!”

“Hey now, take it easy!”

“I’m sure you’d like… help me… that, wouldn’t you!”

“Help you what?”

“To start, destroy Varsoon’s research! We must never again allow him to commit the evil deeds he committed.”

“What deeds?”

“So long ago… trapped… forever… inside… so cold…”

“What’s come over you?”

“Nothings come over me! Simple do what you’re told! Destroy his research and return to me when you’re done! He’ll never do this again!”

“Very strange…”

*** After destroying the Tome of Life and the Tome of Death:

“Oh. Varsoon, there’s no telling what I’ll do to you for sticking me in that stone! You’ll pay for the centuries I spent trapped inside that rock! Artifact, indeed!”

“Err… I’m not Varsoon.”

“Of course you’re not, you gibbering buffoon! But you will slay him! Strike deep into his lair, find him; eradicate him!”

“Me? Varsoon? This doesn’t sound like a fight with an outcome I’d like.”

“That doesn’t exactly concern me, does it? You’ll do as you’re told, whelp, or you’ll suffer a fate worse than death. Go, before I lose my patience.”

“You’ve gone mad.”

*** After killing Varsoon the Undying:

“Well done … now it’s time for you to pay the final price…”

“Pay? A price? Why? I did everything you asked!”

“I need a new body… this one is tired and worn. Yours will do nicely!”

“Not this body!”

***

Description of the stone:

I’m now in possession of a glowing black stone that Scholar Al’Quylar found long ago. Someone was trapped inside the stone during Varsoon’s earlier experiments with immortality, apparently the former owner of the stone.

Very nice, I haven't done it in a while, so nice to hear the lore. Sooo, anyone know who was in the rock? (wondering if there are clues anywhere in Rov or eq1)

I think it's Varsoon's gnome assistant from way back when (in EQ1).

She was a necromancer found out in Qeynos Hills. I admit I never saw her.

This is one of my favorite HQs because of the story involved.
Pyzin! One of the most aggravating yet fun camps in EQ1. Also the subject of some of the most hysterical walk-thrus ever written.

Someone would shout Pyzin sighting! in /OOC and characters would appear from nowhere and join forces to whomp Pyzin and her skellie. Virtual high5s would abound.

Er, does this mean we are all carrying around a petrified Pyzin, a really pyzed off Pyzin? Could be interesting if she wakes up again.

Thanks for posting the dialog! I've added it as an experimental page at EQ2i, once the code gets approved the dialog will be added to the main quest page there.

In regards to GlitterPaws: Pyzin is dead. She possessed the Scholar who you killed in getting the stone, the stone is just the artifact that was used to store her. To my knowledge, when she possessed the Scholar she left the stone and 'died' when he died. Otherwise she could (in theory) be trying to possess you if you wore the stone.
