View Full Version : Zone and i end up at character select

I have zoned no less than 3 times in 10 days only for it to take a very long time and i end up at character select. Then when i hit my character to go back in...you will have to wait you already have a character in the world.Thought i would throw this out there as maybe it is linked to the crap zone times and lag.

Greetings,

While it's possible that it was some kind of server lag, the issue you're reporting is usually caused by a blocked port on the router. I would advise bypassing your router and plugging your computer directly into the modem as a first step. If you try that and it corrects your issue then you'll need to configure your router if you wish to continue using it.The following site has great information about router configuration:http://www.portforward.com/english/...routerindex.htmSimply select the router you are using, then select the 'skip this advertisement' button in the upper right, and finally select Everquest 2 on the following page. You will then be presented with a walkthrough on how to forward the correct ports. Please respond if you need any further assistance.

I'm also having this problem.

I've had it on and off for a couple of years, but it used just happened once or twice a night so it was no great worry.

But a few weeks ago it got much worse. Now I get booted to character select about 4 out of every 5 zones. That, combined with the mandatory "wait because you already have a character in the game" message, means that even simple journeys start to take big chunks of time.

It's noticeably worse during prime time.

I've set my router up for port forwarding as described above, no improvement.

I also suffer from lag nearly all the time. (and yes, I mean lag, not low FPS stutterring graphical issues). Click on a combat art and nothing happens for a few seconds. Trying to time AutoAttack and combat arts (bread and butter playing with my ranger) is almost impossible. Chaining things (eg stealth entry - stealth attacks) is essentially impossible (e.g. Coverage). Again, this is noticeably worse during prime time.

I'm playing on AB.

Some lag will be expected, at least for the moment. I see that you have tried port forwarding but have you tried bypassing the router entirely? That will allow us to rule out the router as a possible cause.

I think the harsh reality is that even if you improve the code, AB will continue to attract more population simply because it is well populated. It seems to me that there is a need for some strong incentives to play other servers and a free transfer mechanism. Ultimately perhaps something as radical as locking AB to new accounts, perhaps with some sort of referral scheme for friends of existing accounts... still, all that's a topic for a different forum I expect. The bottom line at the moment is that the lag makes the game unplayable, and I find myself less and less motivated to log on, even though I still have plenty of content I'd like to play and several classes I'd like to investigate.

I have not bypassed the router, its an integral router / modem provided by my ISP so thats not an option.

They have been working on a way to upgrade the Databases to improve the game play. They are upgrading the cluster that has Nagafen today... I believe that AB is supposed to be the next upgrade that they do
