I have a problem which is incredibly annoying. While playing, the monitor may randomly go into sleep mode, as if it is loosing the signal from the video card alltogether. The only remedy is to completely turn off the computer and turning it back on again.

EQ2 is the only game where this happens. I play a few others and never have this problem. The game is close to unplayable when this occurs frequently. Anyone have had this problem before?

My card is a Evga gtx285 with the latest nvidia drivers. i7 cpu on an asus P6T. CPU is overclocked to 3ghz but it makes no difference when running it stock, the problem is still there.

Help!

I've seen this with ATI cards. It's caused by overheating. Try underclocking your card and the issue should go away or at least happen less frequently.

Thanks for the reply.

I have observed the temperatures of the GPU while playing, and when the monitor shuts off, the temperature is at 66C or thereabouts. So I am not sure if that is the actual cause, but I can always try to underclock a little and see if that helps.

I've checked now. It's not the temperature as it is fine on 67C and it can't be power. I disconnected all my harddrives and stuff to see if the PSU ran out (it's a 600W) and it still shut off.

Also, this is very strange as this problem started apparently out of nothing. The only thing I have done with the computer since it started was connect 2 harddisk drives. I disconnected them just to check and the problem still persists. The computer is exactly at its status now as it was before I had this problem. And it's only in eq2.

This is a problem with the GTX 285 and certain MMO's, EQ2 being one of them. You can do a search on Google for GTX 285 and crash and see what people are saying. I've been through 6 cards with EVGA and they've had me do all sorts of procedures and tests with no results. I am currently hoping to get a refund so I can get a different card, but EVGA's policy is to keep sending you back the same card since they can't reproduce the problem so the card appears fine on their end.

What version of the Nvidia drivers have you been using with the card. Some of their recent driver versions have had a lot of problems with our game(and others). I believe the problems started occurring in July, so using a version released before that date may resolve the issue. Let me know if it is still happening after reverting to the older version.

I tried 178.13, 182,08, 186.18, 190.38 and a couple others I don't remember. I've already sent back my card, though, so I would not be able to test another driver. I do have a link though, about this problem that others were experiencing and what they believe is behind it all. http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m...page=1&key=

Hopefully that corrects the issue but please let us know if it does not.
