View Full Version : paladin specs

Anyone wanna give me a heal spec and a tank spec for a casual raiding pally?

We use healz in supporting our tanking role. In much the same way a warrior has temporary buffs we cast our ward.

What you are asking for is one and the same (within reason) we are NOT healers... and there is no such thng as a "heal spec". I have played the role of a "healer" on some raids.. heck I've even come second on the heal parse before now but most of what we can do is only there to SUPPORT our TANKING role not supplant it.

What you should be asking is "what are the two specs I should be using on my mirror?".. and the answer is:

> One DPS/Instance/Add spec (taking trample from the Agility line)

> One pure Tank Spec (taking Divine Aura from the Stamina Line)

In both cases you:

> Get full Strength Line, Spell Crits from inteligence line on the Crusader Tree

> Get "Cure Spells", "Smite Evil" and "Blocking Mastery" from the Paladin tree

> Get "Knights Stance", enhance your Blessed Weapon damage, your regenerating ward, Faithful Cry and "Aura of the Crusader".

As long as you have those core abilitys you can pretty much put points where you want that taliors to your own personal playstyle; if at some point think that the wisdom line in crusader and "arch heal" is a good idea then I suggest you reroll; (that is not a joke).

But I did put some AAs in the healing line to bring down the power cost and base heal amounts to acceptable levels with T2 and some extra power regen. I suppliment heals in the group, especially when spike damage occurs, so the over-the-time healers can get the health back up (you will often be ignored for this ability while the dedicated healers back slap each other, but you know your big heal is what saved you or the MT -- and on the ACT parser, folks will see how much resurrection will heal upon termination, which often will be the largest heal).

Castigate is often overlooked (and now since the devs changed how it works, that once used the beasties add even more detrimentals, maybe is yet another nerf for Pallies), but it cures enough with a sweet additional damage ability. Definitely something for put 5 AAs in if you want to "cure" yourself, but also not keep spamming the cure button. I usually get the beasties to load up on detrimentals, and fire it off and it works better than the other AoEs for the amount of damage it'll do. It's long reuse timer and it won't cure everything (like any Pally cure, only a select few) is the only real problem with it.

"Cure Spells" recast is 5s", and in raids its pretty much my "favourite" button.. in that I always seem to be clicking the thing. Macro it to yourself with the command /cancel_spellcast before it and get used to using it and you'll never be able to live without it after a few raids

Cure pots can only go so far; recast is too long for some AoEs (Trak double noix hit perfect exmaple); and they only clear one effect and share the same timers. Castigate is fun.. but cannot be relied upon.

I don't know why any pally wouldn't take the cure under support, kind of with boli heh. Its good stuff. I've had it with a macro for ages. I use it constantly. What he said about specs is spot on, go with that.

Healers being in the raid is also an excellent reason to ignore the terrible healing line aa's.

If you sit back and refuse to cure because your "not a healer" you're not gonna last very long in a guild.

The healers are bored with helping Paladins, as their parsers don't look as well.

Can someone give me a good allround spec with cure included, im kinda lost now, been gone since TSO launched...
