"attack" stat question

<p>Simple question thats been bugging me for a while</p><p>I have a stat on my (custom) UI called "attack" - its a 4-digit number and the text says "your overall melee prowess"</p><p>what exactly does this number represent and whats it actually used for ?</p><p>any help is appreciated!</p><p>Bah - Edited for spelling errors</p>

<p>Its a stat that was on the standard UI for a long time, but was eventually removed from teh UI because it meant nothing to players.</p><p>Its obviously still calculated, and used in the equation to determine if you hit or not, but the stat itself has no actual useful meaning to players.</p>

<p>i have no idea what is used to calculate this number, but on my guardian it goes up when i toggle into offensive /shrug. It seems that strength directly effects it, what else i do not know.</p><p>Skill bonuses do not seem to however, so i think it has no bearing on chance to hit or not.</p>
