I've always played EQ2 with no problems untill I get here to college. The conenction here at the school is great. With the network, they have to have everyone authencated. So you can open a webpage that runs an activeX plugin OR, what I did, was install this "Odyssey" program which does the same thing. I have no problems with Atlantica Online, and everyone in my hall has no problems with WoW, CounterStrike, or Xbox Live. So the problem is limited to EQ2.

What action should take to try and get the game to work? Thanks for the help.

From the knowledge base

EQ II Firewall Information Sony Online Entertainment does not support the use of firewalls and proxies, including cable/DSL NAT routers, campus and office networks, or any type of Internet connection sharing services. However, in an effort to assist you in configuring your systems on your own, we would like to provide the following information which may help you in setting up your firewall to work with EverQuest II. EverQuest II LaunchPad and Patch Servers A TCP connection is initiated to patch.station.sony.com at port 7000. A UDP connection is initiated to port range 3016-3021 and 9700-9703. EverQuest II Patch: A TCP connection is initiated at port 7010. EverQuest II Game Client: UDP connections are initiated from the EverQuest II client on UDP ports 9100, and UDP ports in the range 32800-33000. Additionally, ICMP messages type 0 (echo reply), 3 (unreachable), 8 (echo request) and 11 (expired) should be permitted bi-directionally between the client PC and the EverQuest II servers. EverQuest II Servers Subnets: There are multiple IP addresses for the Patch and LaunchPad clusters, and they may change as the network demands, so check often using a DNS lookup tool if you provide a specific firewall rule for these services. The EverQuest II server IP addresses are currently in these subnets: 64.37.158.*, 199.108.2.*, 199.108.12.*, 199.108.202.*, 199.108.203.*, 195.33.135.*

I am having a somewhat similar problem to the OP in regards to my connection at university. I can connect to the server and actually play the game, however I constantly have a ping of between 800 and 4500 ms with an average of right around 2500ms. EQ2 is the only game I have connection issues in, all other games and internet based programs all run with less than 100 ms ping.

Would you recomened the same action for me as the OP?

EDIT: Furthermore, when I ping the IP adress that my firewall says EQ2 is trying to send data to ( 199.108.13.128 ), I get an average ping of 125ms. What exactly is going on here? Disabling my own firewall does nothing for the lag.

Not sure there is much that can bbe done, the campus networks we deal with have requested that function and have no intention of changing the policy, you can talk to the sys admin but they may or may not even admit they are doing it let alone change it

Thanks for the reply, I phoned my university's tech support and they told me to bring my issues down to their office later today where they said the would do something with their packet shaper.
