Hello,

I just built my roommate a new computer that is very similar to mine in build; however, his computer will randomly shut off all input to the screen causing a no signal error with the computer crashing (only way I know this is because he crashes on my screen).

The only way to resolve this black screen is to press the reset button on his tower. No other applications seem to have this problem (I'm still installing WoW, which I'm trying to get him to play EQ2.... unsuccessfully as long as the game doesn't work).

I have seen this topic multiple times and seems to revolve around the geforce 28x series video cards. Unfortunately, I have not seen a topic that seems to solve the problem.

Here is the following I have done:Lower performance settingsTurned on/off multicore settingsChanged CPU/GPU shadowsDisabled/Enabled Voice ChatChanged video card settings to the 190.38 driver and also used the newest oneDownloaded new chipset drivers for the motherboard

Other posts I have found with the same problem:http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=453672http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=432853http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=451474

DXDIAG coming in next post.

I have seen this before , most often the problem is one of the following.

1. Graphics Card getting too hot.

2. PSU not powerful enough / Faulty so cards not getting enough power.

3. Card not being conneted properly to the motherboard for a number of reasons.

4. Drivers being out of date or most current versions not being unstable.

5. Problems with the connection to the Video Card , check the port / cable.

I just opened up the computer, took out the video card, made sure all the connections were sound, put the video card back in, reformated the hard drive, reinstalled windows, and reinstalled EQ2.

1 minute after logging in, the screen went to black the computer crashed, and I had to hard reset to start it back up. Not sure what the issue could be.

I have the same video card, power supply, and processor as him and never have had any of these problems. I just don't know what is wrong and not sure even where to start. If it is something faulty, they are all covered under warrenty, but I don't know what isn't working. The lights are all still on in the computer when it goes black, so i feel it isn't the power supply (not to mention I have the same one and never had power issues... 750W, nothing overclocked).

I assume the only way to correct a heat issue, which is confusing because I have the same card and no problems. Perhaps it is defective, I'm going to send it back and hopefully they send me a working one. By the time I get it up and running the EQ2 trial I set up for him will be expired, guess I lost my chance to convert him to an Everquest player

I've tried multiple different drivers so that is not the issue.

Actually, new plan... going to switch my 280 for his 280 and see which computer crashes first. If it is mine, then it is the video card, if it is his, then it is something else.

Switched video cards and it happened on my computer and his worked fine. Therefore it is that video card (same model). Overheating is definitely the issue as I had them running the same application (EQ2) and just sat them there until one crashed. I opened his computer to take my video card out and it was warm to the touch, I opened my comptuer to take his video card out and burnt my hand (ouch!).

Called EVGA and they are going to replace it (hard to say it is something else when you switch the same video card and it doesn't work in either). I believe this solves my dilemma and thanks very much for the help. I will post again if this does not fix.
