hi, just ask someone to send his/hers everquest2.exe file (zipped), and replace yours.... worked like a charm to me.

It seems like there was a bad patch file yesterday. Is this issue still effecting you at this point? Let us know if you are still having trouble.

Greetings,

When you start the game through the launcher, are you selecting a specific character or are you logging in to the character select window? If you haven't already, skip picking a character through the quick launch and use the in game version of the character select. In most cases that will allow you to enter the game despite the error you've seen.

The biggest tune up that you can do for Vistas (and in a large portion Windows 7) is to install the applications like the SOE games, Blizzard games and the such outside of the Program Files directory structure.

have been running in this senario since windows vista was in closed beta and have rarely had a issue with the patcher, with the advent of Windows 7, the machines I have upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate have been running with little or no issues. Launcher works fine in either installation.

I use a structure of

..games

...gamesSOE

....gamessoestation_launcher

....gamessoeeq

....gamessoeeq2

....gamessoevanguard

...games[that other online game's vendor]

If you are running the station launcher, make sure yuou obtain the latest version available and configure it to match the directory structure you end up with. EQ2 does not use any registry entries so once you create the directory structure you can just right click and copy the original one, again be sure to configure the launcher to your directory structure or you will be downloading the entire game again

Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.7. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".8. Right click on the icon and select "Run as Administrator"

If that doesn't work then you might want to turn off the compatibility mode check box and try again.

Thank you for that. The compatibility part of your post was the fixer. Its weird that I needed to do that out of the blue like that though. Anyway, you need a gold star for the quick response and accurate info!

Ok so it looks like vista's User Account Cotrol was preventing me from patching the game. I disabled that, but now every time I log in, I can get to the character select screen.. but when I choose a character it begins to load and then vista says "Unable to open crash log" like 2-3 times and closes EQ2. No more information is given. Anyone know why this might happen?
