View Full Version : monks are not that bad off - a few ideas

I keep reading how bad monks are and how we are the worst class ect ect - I just don’t see it. I know we need a few items but we are actually pretty good.

3 things I think would set us up near perfect.

Change our group taunt to

Increases Threat 3013 - 3349

Recast 15 seconds

Change the interrupt target to - Decreases Targets crushing resist by 885 duration 10 seconds.

*******************

Give us two aa skills as follows -

Reduce damage taken from ripostes 10% per rank - Max rank 50%

- Brawler must be in def for this to work - (hey we are tanks after all =p )

Second AA

Make this an end line ability - Brawler is immune to strike through.

Honestly if we had that I would be a happy monk!

Fix monk tsunami to be insta cast and with strike through immunity.

Fix single target taunt/encounter taunt to be at 100% to 150% stronger on the their current recasts. Do this for all fighters.

Dragonrage becoming an encounter ability not just single target.

Change monk raid wide back to last years numbers. It was not overpowering then.

Make superior repostie a group ae blocker.

Revamp lightning fists to become a 10 sec 50% proc rating flurry auto attack mod.

Fix avoidance issues.

Kimiz, I like your ideas, but I don't think that will sufficiently help our aoe aggro. More specifically, I don't think a 15 second recast on our group taunt is going to be enough to keep aggro on a couple of groups of multi-mob encounters (Befallen:CoA or Guk:HoF being prime examples of this occurring). Even with a single multi-mob encounter, often the group taunt gets resisted on some mobs. We'd still be heavily dependent on hate transfer classes to consistently keep aggro on adds.

The other stuff you mention would be nice for tanking. The riposte damage reduction is thoughtful since we attack so often. It's probably not as good as more mitigation, but it's certainly thoughtful to the class.

I think brawler's need a revamp of the stamina line (and 1 change to our wisdom line) and a few key enhancements to some of our AA's and we'll be fine.

Starter:

* Favorable Wind works while engaged in PvP and also increases mounted speed.

Wisdom:

* Crane Twril has a (6% * rank) proc chance and the same damage it does now.

Stamina:

* Replace Mantis Star with a short reuse AE taunt, something like this:

Enraging Calm:

* Increases hate to all target's in an 8 meter radius by (2 * rank * level).

* 15 second reuse.

* Replace Mantis Bolt with a buff that gives the monk a (1% * rank) proc chance to increase his threat position on his target by 1.

* Replace Deflecting Pincers with a passive increase to mitigation of (rank * level).

* Replace Mantis Leap with a passive effect like this:

Mantis Shell:

* Prevents strikethrough.

* Except when avoiding an attack for an ally using an avoidance transfer.

* Prevents knockback and knockdown effects.

Monk General Abilities:

* Lightning Palm is now group wide buff is now a groupwide buff and lasts until cancelled and would also require concentration.

* Inner Calm is now a group wide buff and provides +5 combat art base damage.

* Inner Fire no longer drains health and is castable on a group or raid friend and would use 1 concentration slot for each person buffed with it.

Monk AA:

* Superior Riposte has a 15 second reuse timer and the same effect as it does now.

* Combination has the time to use successive abilities raised to 5 seconds, procs automatically (as in the monk doesn't need to hit an extra button on their hotbar), and now procs off any 3 combat art's (IE no longer requires a punch, jab, and kick to be used). It would also only hit 1 time, for about 3/4 of it's current damage, but it has no reuse timer.

Brawler TSO:

* Inner Focus lasts until both absorbs are used.

Monk TSO:

* Change meditative mending at 5/5 to look like this:

* Meditative Mending (5/5):

* If the Monk is damage for more than 40% of their max health within 5 seconds of taking any damage the monk will heal themselves for 15% of their max health.

* Bob and Weave now provides a permenant 5% increase to dodge and parry and reduces incoming riposte damage by 50%.

It might look like a lot of stuff, but most of the changes are to the bralwer tree with a select few changes to existing monk skills. I am not a developper and therefore cannot say if the changes or numbers I hav suggested are too much or not enough, I am just trying to throw numbers out there.

It's not quite as good as Tsunami, but it's close and it's a fast cast. Your way would permanently increase our uncontested avoidance (assuming that by 5% to dodge, you mean something like "caster will dodge 5%", b/c dodge is not a stat we have), but I don't think it's worth losing a life-saving tool.

The rest would be pretty nice!

And as far as PVP goes, you already have clerics who are immune to interrupts and stifles i think, so what does it matter? Not like brawler are THAT great in PvP. This line alone could make brawlers actual tanks instead of the lame-dps scout they are now. It would also make brawlers have to pick and choose what they need for a particular mission, something i NEVER had to do as a monk.
