Is there a way to get the windowed mode to show infront of the taskbar? So that when I do play in windowed mode, playing EQ2 still looks like as if it's in full screen, but still being able to switch to my other window withouth alt+ent?

Greetings,

I don't know if there's a way to do that through the game options, but you can do it through the windows options.

Simply right click on your task bar and select 'properties'. In the first window that opens you should see a checkbox that says 'Keep the taskbar on top of other windows'. Remove the check from that box and it should accomplish what you are attempting to do.

Actually already tried that, but then all the other programs go in front of it aswell and dont want that. And should have said I already tried that .

But isn't there setting in the eq2_recent.ini or eq2_default.ini that I can change or add so that it does appear in front of it?

If you set the taskbar to be not on top and then maximize both EQ2 windows you should get mostly what you want. (You will not be able to get rid of the program bar at the top to my knowledge). But since you are windowed, if you switch focus to something else it will go on top of EQ2, there's no way around that.

Yeah, I do know that. I'll explain the situation.

Im usually playing dual screen, with EQ2 running on 1 and ACT / otherstuff on the other. This also includes websites with strats and stuff. So sometimes in between fights I'd like to focus on my 2nd screen and change stuff there. But I was tyred of pusing alt+ent all the time, so back then it somehow got to the setup that my first screen looked like it was full-screen, but it was windowed. I didnt see any window border or my taskbar on the main screen and only the right border on my 2nd. I could move my mouse to any of my 2 screen withouth alt+entering. Then my GF went behind my PC, screwed it up, I had to reinstall it all and gone. Can't seem to get it back.

So after some trial and error I got to the point where everything looks the same on my main screen, except for the taskbar. If that somehow goes "under" EQ2 again, then it's back to the way it was

I'm sorry, but I have not found any way to do so within the game options. I think your best bet might be to modify the shortcut. If you right-click your shortcut you should see something like this in the target line:

"C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest IIEQ2.exe"

I'm betting there is a command to make it run on top of everything else. Those commands usually look like -w which would be the 'start in windowed mode' command I believe. Added to the end of the target line it would look like this:

"C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest IIEQ2.exe -w"

Sadly, I don't know what the command would be for always running on top or if there even is one. I searched around but couldn't find anything myself. It's worth looking into, though, since I don't have much else to suggest at this point.

If you're looking for a method of keeping EQ2 consistently on top of other windows, there is a freeware program called AlwaysOnTop that you can download and use for such methods.

Granted, the program hasn't been modified since the ol' Windows 95 era. But it still manages to work on Vista machines, so it seems stable.

There's a number of other programs to keep things on top.

But my guess is what the OP saw was a windowed screen where the top bar was just barely pushed off screen and where the taskbar was set to not show.

Before I moved things around, when I would window EQ2 it would place just the tiniest sliver of the top bar still visible. What I would suggest to do is set your taskbar to autohide, then window EQ2. Move it so that there's basically none of the top bar still visible, then expand the window to the bottom. That's probably the closest you're going to get to what you describe, at least in everything I've ever heard.

I think he is looking for something like windowless border mode. Like what swg has when you put it in windowed mode. It looks like it's in full screen, but it is really in windowed mode. It is very useful, but I haven't seen any other game do this.

I've only seen SWG an WoW pull this off in normal options. I haven't seen anything of the sort done with EQ2 though.

Thats what I'm looking for

@Lord_Ebon: If you go into eq2_recent.ini and modify the cl_windowd_screenwith and hight(or something like that, the screenwith and hight under window_maximized true (or false)) to the specs of you're desktop, it will automaticly pos your EQ2 window like a full screen. You wont see any bar at the top or sides. Thats why I'm only looking for something to put EQ2 window over my taskbar.

I'll try to look for any of those programs. If that works, then I'll have something like the WoW (and appearantly SWG) mode.
