ok I'm running win xp sp3 fully upto date geforce 7600GS, originally when I started playing I had just 512mb of ram and yes! it was really slow at zoning.

I upgraded to 1g a couple of years back and that did improve the zoning but since I've been having these connection problems ie very high and unstable pings from 120 upto several thousand and some packet loss which, (I think!) is down to my isp using a certain company although I'm not altogether sure. I've found that zoning has gone incredably slow, and always takes longer on the loading UI resources, before anyone says the usual delete all your ui files and repatch etc I've already tried that several times and it doesn't make any difference, I think that is linked to my other connection problem which, as I can't get any form of sense or intelligence from my isp I'm not having much luck in solving.

My question is if I was to upgrade from the 1g to 3g would it make much of a difference?

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpa...751C788A5CA7304 this is the ram I'm thinking of buying as it's most compatable with my system and my ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe Motherboard, I've just barely enough money to cover the cost of buying this but wanted to ask this question first just to be sure it's worth it. I'm thinking it is but just wanted a few opinions first.

Greetings,

If you are getting 2x 1gb sticks to upgrade then you might want to consider using just those 2 in a dual channel setup.

I assume that you are still using the original 512 stick and then the second 512 stick you used to upgrade? If that's the case then adding the extra 2gb would mean you have 3 different types of RAM in the computer. Running non-matching sticks can cause the computer to run slower than normal.

It might be worth testing with both configurations but I'm betting the computer will run faster without the 512mb sticks you have in there now.

I've actually got a 512mb and 2x256mb sticks in at the moment, the 512mb one being previously bought from crucial. It was from their website scanner that suggested a max upgrade for the motherboard I'm using would be 3x1g sticks which would make the 3g instead of 1g! (if your still with me!) so I'd have three matched sticks of 1g ram in my system rather than 1x512 and 2x256

I'm assuming and thinking I'm right in saying that if I go upto at least 2g I should see a improvement in running eq2?

Keep in mind that if you're using 3x 1gb sticks then only 2 of those will be in dual channel, which is the fastest configuration. You'd probably get a better price/performance gain by staying with 2 or going up to 4.

This is especially true if you like to tweak your RAM settings in the BIOS(timings/frequency/voltage).

Many thanks for the info! I'll most likely go with 2x1g sticks and just use those, although I feel like being greedy and buying the 3 if 2g is the max that is used then it'll be a waste of money to do so.
