So, I never really saw much background on the Athenaeum, I may have missed it. One thing I did notice though was when I was in Riliss a couple weeks back and I came across Dominus Rile, now sharing some familiar company...

Any info on why these four fellows are chummy with Rile, and who they are in the first place?

Those look like the final bosses in Emperor's Anatheum.

Yes, I noticed this as well and found it rather curious. Apparently they only show up after certain rime/other quests/conditions are done I believe as I called a friend over to take a look but they were unable to see them there while I could. The four of course say and do nothing when hailed except for the generic greeting wave.

About the four in general, they and those within clearly are not in touch with present times as they speak of the Ring of Scale's eventual fall even though if we take what has already been done they technically have fallen already.

I find it fairly obvious if you pay attention to the questline leading up to your venture into the Anatheum.

the most powerful troops under Venril were in essence 'buried alive' there. they are long dead, but presevered through a great deal of powerful magics and incantations. Venril sealed the area from his sons so what was in there couldn't be turned against him.

Rile makes a deal with Kraytoc to lend him aid in trying to break the seal on the doorway. the point is simple. Kraytoc is looking for something in specific. an item of power. Rile wants access to daddy's darkest secrets and power. Rile or Ganak or Atrebe can't get in on thier own, becuase Venril specifically warded against his bloodline. Kraytoc (you) can.

So we go in, we get Kraytoc what he wants, Rile gets access, and obviously took control of those four being lesser undead then himself. Rile adds four new and potentially quite powerful soldiers to his forces, along with whatever else he plundered, furthering his plans for the eventual destruction/usurping of his father.

Which I hope we see sometime.

Rile now has plundered/access to the Anatheum, and we know he's laid claim to Atrebe's Kor-sha and all the notes/tomes/experimental things in it. he's allied with the Greenmist Crusaders, who look to him as like a patron saint almost. the first wielder of the Greenmist. seems like his forces are expoentially growing...shouldn't be too long before he tries for the throne.

Fair enough though on that one Cusa. they don't really tell you at all who they are. my best guess at that is that they were/are Drusella or Venril's personal guard. did you try talking to Rile's rep? see if he had any new information to give like a thanks for helping us get into the antheum?

He doesn't say anything new. Still the same "If you have business with Rile, you must speak with me" stuff.

If I could ever finish Kraytoc's quest from Kurns X2, I'd go back and see if I could find anything new.
