A crafter only character is perfectly feasible. If this is your only toon, then it is likely you will have to rely on the broker or your guild for the raw materials needed to craft the items. If this an alt, then your other toons can do all the harvesting, placing the items in the shared bank so your crafter can use them. This can also been done with any of the crafting books that may drop while adventuring. Just have your alts place them in the shared bank. You may also buy these books off the broker as well. The basic skill books for each level will have to be bought, but since that can be done in your starting city, there is no danger to you.

As for the harvesting and crafting related quests. It is doable on a low level toon, but only with stealth, wiles, and patience. There are threads in the tradeskill forums that will provide help with these. Suffice to say your crafter, if she wishes to persue the quests, will have to risk frequent death and perfect the art of avoidance to complete any but the earlilest ones. If you do this, you may find your crafter leveling up in spite of its self.

The forums, and eq2players, have spell lists. That will be only way to get a list of wizzy spells specifically.

To tinker, you need to visit a gnome in Butcherblock, just off the docks. There are others as well. eq2traders has a full guide on tinkering, as well as all the tradeskills. You really should check it out. Tinkering is a secondary skill and you can defintately persue it along with your other craft. Do note however that many of the tinkered items are only useable by the tinkerer, and if you do not adventure, some of this skill will not be of much use to you.

The items that help with harvesting are made by Woodworkers and have levels. If you don't so your own harvesting, these will be of limited use. Other tinkered items, help with the actual crafting process and those you will definately want to make use of.

The research assistent will improve your spells, without any work on you part. Again, there are many threads covering this, including Sony information. Essentially, as long as you have a spell of better then automatic quality, the assistant will improve it.

I have to say again, check out EQ2Traders.com and you will have all the info you could want.
