hey guys im new to the game, just subscribed and pushing level 20. i have 8 unspent achievment points and have no idea where to put them. i would like to be a well rounded balance of soloing capability and group support, more group support of course. i have the one point in the cleric tree put into the yaulp ability and thats about it. where should i start? thanks for reading.

The spec you need while leveling is going to be vastly different to the one you need when at cap. I wouldnt worry to much about the lvl 80 spec yet, by the time you are there you should understand the class a lot better, plus have had time to research on this forum and others what is a good spec for your needs. But, while leveling, you will most probably find yourself questing and soloing a lot, so you want to increase your kill speed. Go down the STA line first, get 4/4/8 to get the 100% melee crits, tie this in with a nice 2-hander, with a slow delay and high max damage. Then go down the INT line to increae your spell crits and decrease your casting times (4/4/6/8/1 works well here for all specs) In the templar tree spreading points around the 'smites' to get the end ability 'Divine smite wrath' will also increase your kill speed.

I agree with the above poster... While you are leveling up just choose AA's that will help you level faster. There isn't a real hurry to have Steadfast and other end-game abilities so early on.

the STA line? 100% melee crit is awesome but wouldnt i want spells over melee since thats what i use more? ive also heard the STR line is good to go down as well. i just used my free respec and have 10 points to spend im still lost. help? also what increases power for templars WIS or INT ??

Str line is nice to have as a solo templar mainly due to the end ability which makes you immune to interrupts (and stiffles) 2s after you stopped moving which really helps tons to get in nukes and heals when you've got a mobs attention (it also has its uses in groups with a less than stellar tank and even on raids with the occasional mob with an AE stiffle).

So I'd recommend to try Str at least when you've got enough points to get the end ability.

Btw, templars power pool is determined by your WIS.

You need to work on both spell and melee. I see templars once in a while who concentrate on one or the other, and I've tried either route, but I find much more satisfying results concentrating on both. Of course my DA and MC are over 100, but my spell crit/dmg are 72/800ish at the same time, so I get the benefit of both. Of course this is with my maxed AA, and you are looking at things more from the beginning point of view. If that's the case I would work spell crit/damage first, as that is easier to get going IMO, but eventually you will want both.

Wis does affect your power pool, but INT still affects your spell damage so it is a very important factor in a DPS sense.

hammer326 wrote:

the STA line? 100% melee crit is awesome but wouldnt i want spells over melee since thats what i use more? ive also heard the STR line is good to go down as well. i just used my free respec and have 10 points to spend im still lost. help? also what increases power for templars WIS or INT ??

You're going to want to focus on both your melee abilities and spell casting. Get yourself a weapon with high damage, and your melee crit and double attack will provide a LOT of your dps. Also in your INT line, you can max your spell crit and casting speed to help with your nukes and heals. Better to be more well-rounded then concentrate on either melee OR spell casting while leveling up.
