So I've done a little digging regarding Norrath's vampire lord, Mayong Mistmoore. Now I know I've read that he ascended into godhood not only in EQ1 and then proceeded to mess with the Plane of Music and attempted to take over the Plane of Sun, which if I recall correctly, this is where you fight and finally destroy him, but he also ascended in EQ2's timeline but decided it wasn't his role and returned to Norrath as an immortal vampire. From what I've read, it seems not alot is known about what Mayong did as a god here in EQ2, I heard that he roamed about the Plane of Hate while Innoruuk was gone, for unknown reasons. I did find in my digging, an interesting piece of EQ1 lore that might shed some light on that?

"It is known that Mayong Mistmoore had a love affair w/ Lanys T'Vyl (innrouk's daughter). In 1999 GMs held an event in Kithicor Forest; in which Mayong rescues his mistress Lanys T'Vyl at the last minute. The event is of significance because it introduced artifact weapons into the game for the first time. Together Mayong and Lanys searched for the one weapon Innrouk fears in game; "Malevolence" an Inny bane weapon / artifact that is given only to one person per server."

-copied from http://eq.knowledgepit.org/wiki/Mayong_Mistmoore

Is there any lore in either game to suggest that Mayong has something against Innoruuk? Or seeks to replace him but lacked the means to get rid of Innoruuk?

One other thing bothers me about MM in EQ2. Saying he was a major player in EQ1's lore is an understatement. He just about had a hand in everything major that went on. But it seems other than the Chelsith Stone quest, he seems to be rather dormant in EQ2. Correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't done alot of exploring in any of the instances off of Loping Plains' crypt, nor in Castle Mistmoore itself, but it seems like MM has taken a back seat. Is there any speculation or reasoning that you guys can come up for this?

As you said, he plays a HUGE roll in the End of Days Timeline with the Chelsith Stone. The fact that he gives it to you to hold (for now) and then seems to disappear doesn't mean that he is not acting in the background. Afterall, he is definately one to act through agents while remaining unseen. I think he definately has a part still to play. He is too powerful and ancient a being to stand idly by while the void threatens norrath (and while whatever is going on on Odus holds the fate of Norrath as well).

Mistmoore's lover was Tserrina Syl'Tor from the Tower of Frozen Shadow. It's true that Mistmoore was a key player for a lot of the GM event storylines, but he never got involved with Lanys. She found the Malevolence by other means.

I didn't say anything regarding wether or not I believe it to be true. I found it and was putting it up for speculations sake.

But you are right LB, I did seem to forget that MM is definately more of a manipulator than an actual piece of the chess set itself. Looking at even the EQ1 lore from that standpoint, it makes sense because he only comes out into the forefront once all of his plans are laid out and the final piece is to be moved (aka his death and then ascension).

/second Cusa about the info in the wiki being wrong.

That discussion is mixing two different events. First, the event in 99 that it is referring to is likely the Battle of Bloody Kithicor, where Lanys was rescued by her mentor, Laarthik. As far as I recall, Mistmoore had nothing overt to do with this (although knowing him, he could have been working in the background)

The second refers to a series of GM events (which correlated with the introduction of city newspapers in EQ) and took place several years later, but was never fully completed. These events revolved around the Staff of Malevolence and correlated with Halloween. There were a series of GM events, supported by newspapers in various cities. It was a multi-step event in which Lanys tried to steal Malevolence. She ultimately fails and after that, a temple to her is created in Rathe Mountains with quests that were never finished properly. I'll post the info on Malevolence in a different thread since much of it is off topic (its about Lanys, not mistmoore). (Simultaneous to all of this were plagues wrought by Bertox on the Karanas and Firionia Vie came back and faced down an avatar of the Faceless in Lesser Fay with Equestrielle. Varsoon was also about attacking Qeynos and the like. It was a busy time in Norrath).

The point is, Mistmoore did NOT help Lanys with this and in fact worked against her and helped defeat her.

That being said, I have found "canon" lore supporting the fact that Mistmoore is an elf of a sort. I was digging around on the archives of the old EverQuest site (I'm a geek, I know.) Go to the EverQuest website (everquest.com) at the wayback machine archives, (I like to use July 11, 2000). Click the picture of FV in the left corner. Go down to player guides, Atlas, click on the picture of Faydwer and you get this flavor text.

"Faydwer is the home of the Dwarves, Wood Elves and Gnomes. The High Elf civilization from Antonica also relocated to Faydwer after the death of the Elddar Forest. Faydwer is also rumored to be the home of two of the oldest creatures on all of Norrath, Mayong Mistmoore, the Elf-Vampire and Phinigel Autropos, the last living Kedge. The name, Faydwer was given to this continent by the High Elves of Antonica when they landed on its shores."

Interesting stuff!

I've been collecting notes on Mayong, the Ydal, and Mistmyr as well, I'll post what I have thus far. It's all from a text document and not in any particular order:

---------------------------------------------------------------------Dialogue from Fiddy Bobbick after finishing "The Fate of Norrath"What does the Mistmyrian Soul Cube do?The infamous ruler, Emperor Venril Sathir, has begun to drawn new power from a crystal that plummeted from the planes. This large Stone of Syllokk is infused with the souls of the newly departed. By trapping the spirits of dead followers of the false god, Syllokk, it emits an arcane energy that makes Emperor Venril Sathir nearly invincible. The Mistmyrion Soul Cube can combat that. How?The soul cube contains powerful spirits taken from the realm of hate. These spirits will leech off the spiritual powers of the Stone of Syllokk, thereby giving you valuable time to incapacitate the emperor of the Sathirian Empire and claim the Amulet of Drolakis.---------------------------------------------------------------------"Mayong's Cruelty: the Drachnids"From the diary of Tserrina, Teir'Dal sorceress. It was in the beginning of the apex of my career of sorcery when I accomplished what I still believe to be my prize achievement. They were beautiful beasts with carapaces that gleamed so black they seemed to be cut of obsidian, multi-faceted eyes that could see in dimensions my Teir'Dal servants could not even begin to comprehend, and they were many hundreds, possibly thousands, of times the size of their much smaller cousins: the black widow spider. They were beautiful, deadly, and my creations.Once I had discovered the secret of raising these magnificent beasts, I sent some as gift to those I admired. Among these individuals was Mayong Mistmoore. Seeking to curry his favor, and to let him know exactly how capable of a sorceress I was, I sent him one as a gift. Imagine my surprise when he sent it back, irrevocably changed. And my poor emissary, L'Dalt, butchered for his experiment. What had left as two different beasts returned as one. He had grafted the head and torso of L'Dalt onto the body of the spider, and the two walked as one. L'Dalt's personality and memories seemed to have been lost in the shift, but his cunning and magical powers were still there - capable of being carried to and utilized wherever the body of that spider could take him. It was a truly formidable combination.I couldn't help but feel a hint of amazement and respect for Mayong's ingenuity. At the same time, however, he had stolen my design and used it to his own ends. The thank you note he sent, "Thank you for supplying Mistmoore with suitable raw ingredients for true servant", mocked me. I vowed to learn all I could of these creatures and create something better. I studied these creatures, which came to be known as Drachnids, after Mayong began to release them into Norrath in packs. They settled into small, neatly organized colonies. The young males spun the webs, and the young females caught food for the nests. The business of the mature males was always elusive. They seemed to be carrying out orders, possibly of Mayong's, but to what ends? I could never tell. The mature females fought for dominance in the position of nest matriarch. These Widows fiercely protected their station and killed the younger females that might challenge them. It all had a beautiful simple design to it. Mayong was truly a genius. My studies ended when I was discovered. Trapped in their webbing for days, I nearly went mad from hunger and thirst and finally, out of a purely desperate attempt to live, I managed to use my magics to get free. I evaded all who pursued me, though I know I am truly only alive today because I never had to contend with any mature Drachnids, and hid beyond their borders. Before I was to truly escape, however, I confronted Mayong. He seemed to be waiting for me, on the edge of their territory, and his face was without pity, or humor as I approached. I outlined what had happened, expecting, well, I am not sure what, but something from him. He, however, only coldly acknowledged that his creations seemed to be establishing themselves well and learning to act together. When I told him exactly how offended I was that he cared not for what had nearly happened to me, he merely stared at me and informed me that the only reason he had called off the mature Drachnids was because I had played a small role in their creation. I felt foolish then, incredibly so, for imagining he would be angry at his creations for capturing me. If anything, it was a testament to their prowess, and had doubtless pleased him. He told me then that my boon had been expended, and that I should not lurk around their nests anymore. Next time I would not likely find so fortuitous a path to safety. Nearly every hour of every day, I think of something I should have done or said to prove to him that he had crossed the wrong sorceress, though the truth was I did and said nothing to him. I only ran away in a wash of emotions I do not care to admit to having felt. Once back within my own dominion however, I began to plot.I designed newer, more ferocious creatures to match and surpass his own. He, I vowed, would feel that same fear and humiliation I had, and I would not rest until he had been shamed. I am still striving. I have created creatures from all manners and pitches of nightmares, but none seem to have quite such deadly perfection as those beasts.I will find one though. It is only a matter of time. And then Mayong Mistmoore will regret what he did to me, and regret having ever made the Drachnids.***By my blood,Tserrina Syl'TolSorceress of the Teir'Dal---------------------------------------------------------------------EverQuest II's Noel "Ilucide" Walling talks about Mistmoore Castle! What is the significance of Castle Mistmoore in the world of Norrath?Ilucide: Castle Mistmoore sits like a dark monument to the might of Mayong above the Loping Plains. For centuries, it's been a symbol of the untold power of the dark lord, and the villagers of Somborn are cowed by both the vision and the inhabitants of the estate. These nights, the halls are filled with vampires and their thralls taken from the surrounding lands. Mayong has little time to hold court, and is mostly found deep in his inner sanctum searching for answers about Zebuxoruk's prophecies and a symbol bound with the fate of Norrath.---------------------------------------------------------------------Rapha's Research Journal With Comments From Vhalen of Norrath:Vhalen's comments on Mayong Mistmoore:Oh my! The history of Lord Mayong Mistmoore. How can you explain someone who is older than the ages? So they say. I do know a bit of the past of Mayong. I would speak of what I know, but, my dear Rapha, I can see that would only fuel your curiosity. Mayong reacts to those that seek his past. Then again, the natural defenses of the Athenaeum should keep you safe. So why not speak just a bit about what I have heard in my journeys. Mayong Mistmoore is older than the ages. He is a great survivor of an epic catastrophe, an event so tragic that he chooses not to speak of it, but he does not forget. His tragedies are not to be repeated and he has taken great care to see that this is so. Is the defense against history repeating his sole purpose? No. But knowing those defenses could help you understand his actions and hint of the secrets he keeps. Have you ever met Mayong? Very few have, or rather, very few have ever met him and been released. Sometimes they think they are free from the walls of Castle Mistmoore, but once touched by Mistmoore, always bound. The power of the lord of vampires is not restricted to his foreboding land. He could be watching you this very minute.---------------------------------------------------------------------Item description from "Ydal Talisman of Ancient Rituals""The Ydal were the first dark elf race, created in the Plane of Hate by the evil god, Innoruuk. The dark elves would be spawned from dark ancient rituals cast upon the product of a single drop of Innoruuk's blood, poured from the Ewer of Sul'Dae. These Ydal would share some of the powers and appearances of their deity..."---------------------------------------------------------------------The five vampire clans from Evernight Abby:Vashota, Rajadevi, Yciid, Bechoi, Lubesh---------------------------------------------------------------------Quote from Vhalen, EQ2 Lore Dev:"He has discovered a hint of something far away and ancient, something that cannot be answered in conventional means.Lord Mayong Mistmoore may be more powerful than any of us can ever dream of being, but perhaps the greatest mysteries of Norrath are just as perplexing to commoner as they are to a superior entity. Or, perhaps he is toying with us all, leading us to a destiny where the secrets of Mistmoore will finally be revealed as Norrathians take one step closer to the inevitable".---------------------------------------------------------------------Dialogue from Mayong Mistmoore after defeating Trakanon:"Teir'Dal, you remind me of the past. So alike are we. I pray that we do not run the same path... for the sake of all Norrath."---------------------------------------------------------------------Message Board post from Vahlar-Dev (EQ Development); official EQ1 boards; 9/14/2006Subject: Re: Inny a vamp?"Mayong Mistmoore is his own race of vampire. He's older than any of the common player races. In fact, he's said to have seen the first of Veeshan's brood on Norrath. Perhaps something occured in those days that fueled his hatred of dragon kind . . ."---------------------------------------------------------------------From the "EQ Atlas: Maps of Myrist" book, in reference to Castle Mistmoore:"...This castle has stood since before the elves fled Tunaria, now named Antonica, before the dwarves had seen the light of the Norrathian Sun. It is rumored that the builder and inhabitant of the castle is an ancient vampire named Mayong, Lord of Mistmoore, who has lived well over ten thousand years. The elves of the Faydark know to stay clear of the castle and its surrounding lands out of well justified fear of the castle and its monstrous bloodthirsty inhabitants...Like its master, the castle and its origins remain shrouded in an impenetrable mystery and likely shall until the vampire lord deems it necessary to reveal such secrets, which in all likelihood will never come to pass..."

If anybody has logs of all the quest text and dialogue from the Swords of Destiny timeline, I'd much appreciate seeing it. I seem to recall that there was a bust of Mayong that had an engraving saying something along the lines of, "slayer of the first" or somesuch. In any case, it made me question whether Mayong was himself the first of his kind, or if he rose to power among others long ago.

Being one of the 'commanders' in the war of hate event, I don't know how accurate the statement about the Mistmoore + Lanys's relation was in terms of canon. Live Events have a harsh tendancy to not really accurately reflect the lore due to their nature. At the time of the war event, from our event, Lanys was a devout follower of Innoruuk [now there is merit to the idea that a devout follower of Innoruuk will still hate Innoruuk ], and Mistmoore's involvement at that time was just meddling with Vox.

[ add / edit ]

And ya, he's going to seem less important than in EQ1, there were like 3 freaking expansions in EQ1 where he was the Mastermind Enemy .

I remember a GM event in Steamfont once, something about a powerful wizard looking for the http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...m.html?item=335 Crystal Claw of Veeshan, supposedly a shard of her claw when she struck Norrath. We went out to slay a drake and the wizard turned out to be Mayong who rewarded it to the player. He also offered a gal to pledge fealty to her, she accepted and recieved a vial of his blood which changed her deity to Mayong and buffed magic and disease resist. He also deathtouched one of the more mouthy players with the infamous "xxx was sent to hell and back" message

But that was a looong, looooong time ago.
