As there is no PvP Euro based server, I have no choice but to play on Nagafen which is no problem as its a brilliant community on there

However I noticed my ping is at about 250-350 most of the time and worried this may have a significant impact on the ability to play the game or even PvP reliably

Anyone have any idea?

Appreciate any responses

What's your Ping when playing on Runnyeye? If your Ping leaps up the most because you are playing a USA based server instead of an European server, you are fresh out of luck because then the lag comes from your geographical distance to the server.

If the differenc is small, and your lag to RE is already quite high, it means you have a high Ping just connecting to EQ2 only it didn't bother you so much on a PvE server. In that case the problem is most likely something you could help and you just need to diagnose your connection to see where the problem is (could be you need a better ISP, or are trying to play wireless).

Anyways, start by seeing if the high Ping comes because you are playing on Nagafen or if it is something you have on all connections.

I'm Euro playing on Nagafen too and experiencing the same ping range as you. The game is mostly playable this way, though I'm now staying away from lag sensitive classes (like positionnal classes), as it can be frustrating at times. That being said regardless of your location Nagafen has his good share of built in server lag. Lately we get random lag spikes of several seconds in raid instances, which is always welcome when the instant-cure-or-die AOEs hit. Bah guess SOE employees are on summer vacation and no one is feeding the hamsters.

Man, they're gonna make me hand-crank the servers for this...

In response to the original question, though, the ping you're stating seems fairly normal considering the distance you're connecting over. Did you ever try testing your ping against one of the European servers like runnyeye?
