I was looking over some EQ1 maps. I'm not sure if the kingdom of sky expansion introduced the air plane or if the area is something diffrent. Can some one please shead some light on this for me please?

There's some obvious links between the two, but when you go to KoS you're not going to PoAir, you're just going to some islands floating above Norrath, you're still in the material (regular) plane.

I think it is said in the overall learned lore of KoS (going through the long questlines) that they used to be in the Plane of Air, but when the gods left, they somehow were expelled from there. Probably from the gods cutting off their power to Norrath and then again pulling power from other resources when attempting to come back.

Back in EQlive, the zone file for "Plane of Sky" is "Airplane", while the Plane of Air is "Poair". You can see why he's confusing the two. The plane of Sky isn't the Plane of Air, but it was called as such when it first opened up long before they had any plans to add the actual Plane of Air.

Anyways, in Desert of Flames, you learn that the withdrawal of the gods literally had the Plane of Sky leak into Norrath. The 3 areas in Kingdom of Sky that you can travel to are just small sections of a nearly endless chain of islands that make up the actual plane.

LOL it just seems some of this stuff is difficult to follow. So many things resemble other things. @.@;

You'd be better off finding it out on your own.

You guys are confusing the Plane of Air with the Plane of Sky.

The Plane of Sky is the realm of Veeshan, and could only be accessed by teleportation. It was a series of floating islands connected by chains. The Overrealm is several remnants of the Plane of Sky that "drifted" into Norrath's upper atmosphere.

The Plane of Air is one of the four Elemental Planes. Xegony, the Elemental Goddess of Air herself, rules the Plane of Air.

Yeah as has been said, the islands that make up most of "The Overrealm" that we visit in KoS are actually islands that at one time were part of the Plane of Sky, the most obvious give away is the chains.

Which brings up something I've always wondered about...what is the deal with the chains? I mean, it seems that their most obvious use would be as anchors to keep these floating islands tethered to something, or each other. But what I've always wanted to know is who made them, attached them to the islands, and why would they even really be necessary? The Maps of Myrist (the EQ Atlas) suggest that they hint at a meaninful origin of the isles.

Also interesting to note that the same entry in the Maps of Myrist is also where the rumor/story of the essence and consciousness of Veeshan being in an indefinite slumber inthe plane of dreams, being watched over by Morell-Thule himself (herself?).

In EQLive you can fight the Eye of Veeshan and the Hand of Veeshan, which are the final bosses of the zone.

I always thought the chains were simply decoration.

Interesting to note that the only way to leave the Plane of Sky was to jump and fall...and eventually land in East Freeport.

I believe it was brought to Norrath by conscious decision of the Djinn Master though. Maybe I have that point wrong. Either way, it was also an island that existed in EQ1, albeit in much simplified form.
