Hello!

New computer is arriving today, and I had a question about installing the game on the new one. Can I just transfer the directory over to the new computer or will I need to install and then re-download the patches? Or can I just install the game (I have the discs for TSO) and copy a patch file or directory over?

The old computer is using Windows XP and the new one will be using Vista 64bit so I'm doubting the compatibility of just transferring/copying the directory (I'll be taking the old computer's second hard drive out and putting it in the new computer to transfer the files). I know Vista can be a little... finicky... about programs so I'm just wondering what my best course of action will be. I do know I need to setup EQ2 to run as administrator with Vista, but beyond that, I'm not sure how different Vista handles files and directories from XP.

Thanks for any help!

Have not done a full install since the original one when EQ2 first came out

You can simply transfer the files over to the new PC and begin playing. The game does not require an installation to run correctly.

But does Vista handle files differently than Windows XP? I can just copy the Sony directory into the Crogram Files folder and be good to go (other than making sure it's set to run as admin)? I coulda sworn the files were put in some Public Games folder or some strange place on my husband's Vista OS computer.

(Have I mentioned yet how much I hate Vista? I've tried to avoid my husband's vista run computer for months now...and now I'm stuck getting vista myself, so yea, I'm sorta behind the times/knowledge when it comes to Vista. *cough*)

In fact, I would actually recommend moving the game to a directory like C:GamesEverquest 2. The program files folder has some extra file protections that can cause problems with the game sometimes.

Ahh, gotcha! I think I will steer clear of the Program Files directory then. Thanks for the quick replies!
