Hello!

I recently moved back home with my parents for the summer and have been having issues with their internet connection working with Everquest 2. Back in December/January I was home and it was working fine, but now it is practically unplayable. I have tried Everquest 2 on multiple computers (Laptop and Desktop) and both experience the same issues. Also, I have made sure the ports are open for Everquest 2 and we even called someone from the internet provider to come out to help us figure out why the internet is having problems (I still blame them for it not working, but I hope maybe someone will recognize the issues because obviously they are unable to).

At certain points in time, the entire network suffers a huge spike and causes me to lose control of my characters (I can run around, but I am unable to cast anything or fight.... leading to my unfortunate demise often). The key thing is that EQ2 is the only program that DOES cause a reproducible lag spike that takes down our network for a few seconds. Battles seem to be the worst offender, with brokers, bankers, and merchants also causing problems. However, this is all random.

When logging into Everquest 2, the internet will drop 100% of the time the moment it hits Loading UI as the character is loading. It will eventually kick back in and then I will enter game (It rarely ever boots me back to character select or worse). The person that came out basically blamed EQ2 for the problems because that was the only game that could cause the problems consistantly (However, WoW, AIM, and just surfing the internet cause the network to drop periodically, but not nearly as often with EQ2).

My parents have dsl with at&t with 3Mb/s download speed. Tried multiple modems, routers, and even the main chip outside the house and it kept dropping. I attempted to get them to go with cable, but unfortunately, they weren't able to get a good deal and with money being tight, I cannot justify them getting something more expensive so i could play EQ2 for the few weeks I am home.

So, anyone have any clue what might be causing the problems? I can give more details if needed.

I notice you mention trying several routers but have you tried connecting without the router? If possible, try connecting like that and let me know whether or not it corrects the issue. If you can log in without the router then we'll need to configure it to work with the game.

Besides that, it's also possible that something in the background is conflicting with the game. Try turning off all of the other computers in the house and then perform these steps on the computer you're using for the game:

1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.

That should disable anything that could be conflicting with the game.
