I have had one or more iterations of eq2 running at a time but recently the system has been locking up on entry into the first zone in the game. It locks the whole computer up with the music stuttering in the background. Have to hard reboot to get out of it.

Vista Optimum 64-bit

AMD 955 3.2GHZ 4 core

4 GB ram

ATI Sapphire Radeon 4870 1GIG video card.

Have no idea what is causing this.

Seems to be a random event but getting more common.

Have Administrator set on everthing, XP SP2 compatibility set on everything AND UAC turned off.

It locks up at the "Loading UI Resources" at the first zone in.

The Character Selection screen works fine.

Greetings,

Are you running a custom UI? If so, check to see if there is an update available for it. Failing that, you may need to remove it for now. If that doesn't work then we may need to remove the settings files from the Everquest 2 directory so that the launchpad can download fresh versions. Those files are listed below:

cache foldereq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exee q2.iniAs well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniSt ationname_characters.ini

I would advise moving those files to another folder temporarily instead of deleting them. That way you can restore them to the Everquest 2 folder if this doesn't work.

Thank you for responding.

I actually read the same advice from you on a slightly different thread and have followed your suggestions.

Including saving my customized settings instead of deleting them.

I haven't had a chance to test it yet except for once when it worked. But the effect is random so I have to test it quite a few times.

Will get back to this forum in any case since others may get the same problem.

It may have been the ATI Catalyst Control Center.

My son knew I wanted to have the highest graphical content so he set it to high quality.

That turned on 4x Anti-Aliasing, 16x Anisotropic Filtering, Catalyst A.I. (whatever that does), set mipmap detail leve to the highest quality and enabled "Adaptive Anti-aliasing" and set it to the highest quality.

When I accidentally stumbled across those settings while going from two monitors to one, I set them back to "use application settings" for the Anti-Aliasing and the Anisotropic Filtering and disabled the "Adaptive Anti-aliasing" and the Catalyst A.I.

We'll see if that does the trick. Obviously, this only applies to ATI Radeon graphics cards.

Greetings,

Severaly people have reported issues with the 'adaptive antialiasing' feature, so it wouldn't suprise me if disabling it corrects the issue. Let us know if the problem persists after trying that.

Turning those off seem to be a complete fix for the problem.

If you think it is just the "adaptive anti-aliasing", I'll try turning the other options back on to see what happens.

I don't mind rebooting a few times......

So far, I can't get the )#*$)(*=)*!@#@*$) thing to lock up again. I have it set up just the way my son set it up.

Now I can't get it to STOP locking up!

No more volunteering. I may not survive this latest defeat!

Ok. I have done everything I can think of including removing and reinstalling EQ2.

Nothing works.

Cannot play at all.

Hangs at first zone-in every time - either at "Loading UI resources" or at "Loading environment...." (something).

Considering wiping Vista 64 and reinstalling everything.

I just played the Crysis demo with everything maxed out - got 25-35 fps - no problems.

So there is nothing wrong with my graphics card.

Gonna reinstall Vista 64

Did the reinstall go off without a hitch? Any troubles since?
