I'm going to be quite upfront, I have an older computer (2002ish) and I absolutely refuse to buy a new factory built computer as 98% of what I use on my computer will not run on Vista nor on Windows 7 and I have absolutely no clue how to build my own and I'm not paying somebody $200.00+ just to put my computer together on top of the cost to buy all the parts. So, here are my current computer specs (as much as I can find anyway). I should note that I'm looking for optimal performance with one exception: I don't care about the graphics except that I MUST have my character at a decent graphical level (Character Texture Resolution set to Medium is as low as I'll go).

Intel Celeron 2.80GHz, 400MHz system bus, 128KB L2 cache

1024MB PC3200 400MHz RAM

Realtek AC97 Integrated Audio codec

BFG Nvidia GeForce 6200 256MB PCI serial bus Video card

and Windows XP Home fully updated as well as I have all current drivers for everything (video card, audio, network adapters, chipset...etc)

Again, what I'm looking for is some "basic" settings to use in the Alt+O menu in game (preferably with Character Texture Resolution at High but no lower than Medium)

If you're certain you want to keep what you have for now, the more graphically intense options are below.

Shadows - I'd recommend having these off if not already done so. They can decrease performance by a large margin on slower machines.

Specular Lighting - This should be off as well, as it has an affect on everything on or around a light source and can also decrease framerate performance.

Reflections and Water Quality - This should be set to the 'high performance' option for reflections and all other quality options should go as low as possible if you'd like a reasonable framerate.

Ok I have those set to those settings already. Actually, to be a bit more specific, are these settings going to wind me up with a bunch of "Application has run out of memory....." errors?

Full screen on

Resolution 1024 x 768 60Hz

Reuse Vertex Buffers on

Distance rendering 575

Complex Shader rendering 25

Texture Resolution Medium or Low

Character Texture Resolution High or Medium

Character LOD Resolution Medium or Low

Everything else set to the Very High Performance options other than that Cloth animation thing in the Animation tab is set to on

Greetings,

Honestly, with your current setup I would recommend running the game with the settings almost completely bottomed out. Certainly if you have specific things you like to be at higher quality then you can sacrifice some performance for those things, but I'd start by lowering everything to the bottom. I would recommend keeping 'level of detail bias' around standard and 'character textures' at low or medium and everything else minimized.
