View Full Version : Station Launcher - 9gb download?

Last night I decided to check out the station launpad. It's starting from scratch (even though I already had the full game on my machine) to download NINE GIGABYTES!! I'm furious to say the least! I cannot log in the game until the DL is complete.

How do I delete that launcher off my computer without deleting the game. At my connection speed it will be an end to the bonus experience weekend before I get to play again. Please help!

Edit - the NEW Station Launchpad by the way.

The launcher isn't seeing your game location. Go into the game preferences in the launcher and set the path to point to the folder that contains the game files then it won't need to download them all again.

Right. As tkia mentioned - it likely changed your install location elsewhere. Shifting it back should solve that paritcularly long download.

More specificallyI recreated the same problem when I attempted to start patching from the station launcher rather than EQ2 launcher. What did it to me, was that on the setup, it showed an install location that I thought was indeed the correct one. Possibly because it still contained the key words I missed it the first time, but:EQ2 Disks default install location: C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest II

EQ2 station launcher default location: C:Program FilesSony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverquest II

So, i've now changed the install to the Disk Default location and my patch shrunk down to 2 gigs, keep in mind yours will be higher than that because i've spent the last 24 hours on the EQ2 launcher updating. All that being said, I don't trust the 2 gigs figure its present me as my EQ2 folder is only 8.1 gigs, and i've been told the magic number is 11 to about 11.4 gigs (no addons). So unless there's some decompression due to take place, I've got something unexpected ahead of me.

Something surely isnt right about this. I encountered the same problem and when I changed my folder it just deleted the icons for EQ2 and LON off my desktop. I went into "games" (a Hewlett Packard thing) and dragged a copy of the EQ2 folder on my desktop. It works and I canceled the station download. Leave well enough alone! Buyer beware until this thing is fixed or comes with a mans worst nightmare...... instructions!

The application is apparently only usable when it's installed to it's default location. I have no clue why it deleted the contents of my game folder. Still trying to recover from that little trick.

It's also incapable of actually locating the game folder on it's own and insists on downloading the entire freaking game for each language (including english). Fix this POS. At the very LEAST it should be able to locate the game folders on its own.

Greetings,

I just removed my old station launcher using add/remove programs from the control panel and installed the new station launcher. The new station launcher has a different install location, but it was able to find my old EQ2 folder with a quick scan. It did not require any additional download.

What operating system are you using? I wonder if it has problems autodetecting the game in a 64-bit OS (because of the added x86 line).

Either way, you should be able to swap the install location through the Station > Preferences menu. Click on Everquest 2 and there will be a change install location button.

My OS is XP (32bit)

The main problem is it doesn't auto detect the EQ2 install, at least not for some of us. It just goes ahead and starts downloading the whole freaking game again and tries to install it in the C:\Program FilesSony Online Entertainment Installed GamesEverquest 2 folder as opposed to the looking for the game in EQ2's default install location where it has resided on my computer for over 3 years. If SOE's own application can't tell where the SOE default installation paths for it's own games are, there is an issue.

And I'd really like to know why, when I uninstalled the new Station Launcher after finding out it does not work using a custom installation path, that it pretty much took my whole game folder along with it, even though it was NOT installed in the Everquest 2 folder.

Over the weekend, I had to reformat my HD (well, I didn't HAVE to, but things were cluttered in there, and I usually reformat once a year anyway) ... I backed up my EQ2 data, etc and started from scratch.

As a 'test' I decided to download the 'out of beta' Launcher and see if anything was different.

Oh heck yeah there was... since nothing had been installed, I just let it go ahead and get started.

SHOCK! EQ2 was downloaded/installed and ready to go in less than 30 minutes! I was in shock. I was fully prepared to come back and see that it was going to take about 6 hours to download or something. Instead, it was telling me it was ready to play. I restored my UI settings and my log files and was up and running with no hassles.

Whatever SOE implemented in the transfer process, a MAJOR thank you! I have tried in the past to reset my modem, reset my router, opening ports, restricting access, even took the modem and went for the direct connection to my computer (earning the animosity of my roommates in the process) and nothing ever seemed to make a significant dent in the download process... Keep up whatever you did.

I WILL admit, it's a little confusing about the relocation of the game files. Too bad it couldn't automatically detect the game and move them to the folder (I understand wanting to keep everything in one folder if possible)

The game will now download into an error that has less security than the previous default and that causes it to download faster and with less hassle. It can be annoying to relocate the file for existing players but it works really well when set up like that.
