I bought this game from the sony store, and spent the last 3 days downloading it. I finally got it all downloaded and installed, and when I go to create a character, it hangs up on the part where it says it's submitting the character to the server for approval. I've tried two different servers.

I searched on here for any posts on this problem, the only ones I found involves custom UIs, which I don't have.. Or video card problems.. Which I don't know about.

Considering the point where it is getting stuck, a connection issue seems like the most likely cause. Are you running any firewall or antivirus on the system? If so, you might want to disable those programs temporarily for testing. I would also advise bypassing your router if you're using one, so that your computer is plugged directly into your modem.

If you are able to create your character after any of those steps then we'll know which of those things is causing a problem so that we can fix it.

Ok, I disabled my firewall.. That gave me a slightly better result.. I could atleast ctrl+alt+delete out rather then having to restart my computer when it just sat there on the sending to server approval thing.

I can't bypass my router, since it's all setup to sign into our DSL that way, the modem doesn't. And I have no idea how to change it so I can sign in through my computer.

Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.

My router doesn't seem to have a DMZ option. I have a Netgear router, if that helps It has an UPnP feature, and I saw something about port forwarding/triggering.

I disabled the background stuff, well.. Except for a few that I knew I did want to start when I turned my computer on I'd actually been wondering how to turn some of that stuff off

Haven't restarted the computer yet, due to a few things. I am thinking it must be some ports I need to open up.
