In under 1 minute my screen turns off while playing EQ2. I can still hear sounds and everything else is fine, just no video. I play a ton of other games and I have no issues. These include Crysis (max settings), TF2, L4D, Sims3, UT3, Vanguard, CoD:WaW, DemiGod, BattleForge just to name a few.

My system is as follows:

Video: 2x EVGA GTX 285 FTW Edition video cards in SLi

Motherboard: EVGA Triple Sli

CPU: Core i7 2.66

Ram: 6 gig corsair dominator

Psu: 1200wt InWin

I know for a fact this is not any kind of heating issue. I have monitored the cards and they are well within normal ranges when I run the game. They get way hotter in Crysis.

I have ran every single stress testing program I could find with no errors. This includes Prime, memtest and linx. The stress testing was for 12 hours on each setting in Prime, memtest overnight and 20 passes of linx.

I haven't tried some obvious things yet, which I'm about to.. such as disabling sli and lowering graphics settings, and I will go do that now and reply with results. If anyone has any suggestion as to what I can try, please let me know.

Thank you.

Lowering graphics settings doesn't help. Screen still turns off quickly.

For anyone who has RivaTuner, here is the log for my system when the screen turns off...

http://drop.io/rfgthgi

It appears that GPU0 just turns itself off.

The next thing I can try is swapping my video cards around... will do that while awaiting any other suggestions.

Okay, I have now tried with sli on and off and swapped video cards with the same results. I am now at a complete loss as to what to try next.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

so I guess I'm screwed. nobody has any clue as to what I can try and I have tried a zillion things that I could think of and it continues to do this. I have tried three different 285gtx video cards so I know it's not the video card. I have reset my bios settings, tried several different settings there, made sure all drivers are up to date, rolled back to earlier drivers for video and still get the same problems.

i did find out its only in certain zones that my screen will turn black after 1 minute. i made another character and started in another zone and no more black screen. however the game will lock up my computer after an hour or so of playing. in certain zones it will black my screen out within 1 minute of entering. commonlands and the new beginning areas for fae will do this.

i continue to have zero problems in any other game. i copied the game to my second computer and have been playing there with no problems, however, i would much prefer to play on my main computer as it is much more powerful.

Did you try running a full file scan to check to see if some of the files might be corrupt?

Also, check your graphics driver. Which driver are you running?

In your settinngs, did you try turning using two cores off to see if it fixed it?

This is definitely a strange issue. Have you checked to see if there are any updated BIOS or Chipset files available? If there's a problem with the BIOS/Chipset then that could explain the issues. It's also possible that there's some kind of problem with the PCI-x slot, but you'd think that would manifest in other games as well if that was the case.

I have the exact same issue

Geforce 8600 GT

AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual core 6000+

3 Gb Ram

Havent had any problems but it started with the latest update, screen goes black and computer locks up, message on screen is "No signal detected". Have no issues with any other games, just eq2

If you're using the most recent Nvidia drivers then try rolling back to the previous version. Several people have reported an issue with the latest driver release.

Tried both the most recent and a roll back, no difference. The lockup is abit weird too, it locks and I have to hardboot it but I have to wait a couple of minutes, sometimes up to 5 minutes otherwise the "No signal detected" persists.

I had the older drivers when I installed EQ2. I only updated my drivers to try to fix this problem, so I know the older drivers won't fix it. I've tried all of the suggestions here so far and still have the same problems.

All of my drivers/bios is current.

It just seems like this hardward isn't compatible with the game.

Are you comfortable opening up your computer case? If so, please open the case and ensure that all of the power cables are securely connected. Pay special attention to the power cables leading to your graphics cards. If one of the connectors attached to your graphics card has come loose then that could cause this issue.

Looks like the game is running again... what I did was to start the game and update it with EverQuest2.exe instead of using the station launcher. it ran nice for 10 minutes, then I tried to start up the game with station launcher again and it runs fine, been on for about 1 hrs now without a crash. also fiddled abit with connectors and graphics card just to make sure they were plugged in correctly, didn't find anything that was loose or not connected but then again.. you never know, we are dealing with computers after all.

Thanks for the help

Yeah, I put this computer together and I've already double checked all the internals. If it was something hardware, I'm pretty sure I would be having problems in other games or during benchmarking/stress testing.

The only thing I can think of is the SoundBlaster X-Fi being the culprit. I'll pull that card out and use the onboard sound and see what happens.

Thanks for the replies!

Well that didn't fix it. I have come to the conclusion that this hardware setup is just incompatible with the game.

I wonder if anyone with the same setup can play it without crashing? Nvidia gtx 285, Evga triple sli mainboard (E758-A1), 6gigs Corsair Dominator RAM, Intel Core i7 920 CPU, Windows 7.

I'm stuck playing it on my second computer, which plays it decent, but my main machine has a nicer bigger monitor and keyboard/mouse and should be able to play it on higher settings smoothly. (The second computer is also running Windows 7 and is two 8800gtx's in sli, intel core duo extreme 3.0ghz, 4 gigs corsair dominator, evga mainboard.)

Oh well..
