Hello all I've been away from the game for a while now and have been playing all the other MMOs and I was wondering is it safe to come back. Now Im sure endgame is still moving but Im more wondering about all the starter stuff and everything between it. See I was thinking if I return to the game I want to start all over again with a new setup new characters and with a fresh start but Im a little scared Im going to be stuck out there with nothing to do and no one to play with. Are there still low lvl players or is everyone just about powered up by the high lvls or am I doomed to solo to 80.`

I could have answered that question a few hours ago but after tonight I can only advise you to save your money and wait. If you can't wait for a new MMO and don't have friends already, hit a high pop server and pray.

Is it safe?

Yes. It is safe. Leveling to 80 has never been faster although you may do quite of bit of it solo.

Yes, it is indeed safe to come back....

There are still enough people in the lower area's to have fun. Only thing is, people expect others to come to them. That will not work... you have to be active yourself. Just a "LFG" tag is not enough and never really worked. My lower character meet enough people to group with.

If you want people to be around, then go indeed go the better populated servers and find an active guild.

Leetha.

Hey Hey

I have a freind who just got him self conneted to the interweb's and he has decided to play eq2. I almost feel like i have to apologise for the stae of the game at the lower lvl's. I am on perma and from what he tells me there is no one around. I really do not want to PL to 80 becouse there is alot of very cool things to do as you lvl up, but slowly i am becouse there is no other way that he will see half of the old world dungeons or instances. I would stronly recomend you go to AB , i would go there my self if it was not for the frineds i have made on perma. There is not enogh of an influx of new players to populate these area's and i would guestamate 75% of the low lvl char are some ones alt. However I still have not found another MMO that i like better and it is not for a lack of trying.

Welcome Home

Rev

A note about AB--

1)high population has drawbacks. Lag there is miserable

2)It's a roleplaying server, so if you go there, at the very LEAST you need to have a respect for the RPers.

It's been my experience that there are few players in general (old and new) in the summer months. Then in September numbers rise and keep going up as people come for the new expansion. Then the next years summer hits, and people don't play as much.

Not really anything to appologize about. It's just ... summer.

I would like to say it is different in a good way. I find when I make alts that there are always groups on my way back up to 80. A lot of new players in the game. Not to mention other people who make alts. So yes you should be able to find groups on your way towards 80.

-Phinneus

The world of Norrath has grown quite large in EQ2, so there are MANY competing areas and quests. THis leaves te population, no matter how high or low, spread out across a world-sized landscape.

Just recently, I started a new account with no financial assistance from my other toons, a bare-bone, do-it-on-your-own newbie.

The first thing to do is to bookmark EQ2i's excellent Solo Quests Timelines. Wheter you are grouping or soloing, this will give you valuable information about what zones fit which levels, and where generally to look for content that suits your current prowess. You can drill into it further to find where your questgivers are, and then drill in again if you need specific hints for a given quest.

It's actually a great idea to set up a hotkey in-game that says this:

/browser http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Solo_Timelines

So.. back to my experience with an untwinked baby toon. I saw lots of people on the Queen's Island (I started as a Qeynos citizen). The handful of quests on the baby island are so easy they pretty much do not need a group, so I breezed through them until I arrived at the end of the zone. There I was easily able to get another person to assist me to slay the evil wizard in his cave, and to kill the Graathuk -- the needed extra folks were standing around these areas looking at them balefully when I asked if I could join them, and were glad for the help.

Next, I hopped aboard the ship and went to Qeynos, where I rented an apartment, set up a couple of bags on the broker to hold my loot that I hoped to sell. Then from the harbor I took the Sinking Sands Carpet, then in SInking Sands took the carpet to Butcherblock Mountains. A short stroll up the beach brought me to the Gorowyn griffon trainer, and I flew from there to Gorowyn in Timorous Deep.

Once in Timorous Deep, I worked my way through the cavernous city to come out on the grassy hillside above the griffon tower. Then I flew via griffon towards the start of the TD questlines. You get to the battlezone where the sarnak are fighting bird-men, and there was just a matter of watching carefully then darting towards the path leading to the beach. You can also just swim from Gorowyn to the starting quest island if you prefer, since there's no inimical sealife.

The quests in Timorous Deep give very good rewards for their level, and are meant to be soloable. By the time I got here, I was maybe level 6 or so? At any rate, the very first few quests were grey, but I do them anyway so I can get the stuffed fish for my house later!

I didn't see anyone at all while I was doing the easiest starter quests in TD, but once I got to Mok Rent there were several people, and had I wished I could have grouped. I was playing in short bits though, which is disruptive to a group cause you have to leave just as things get interesting.

When I'd played through all of Timorous Deep, I returned to Qeynos, unloaded bags, arranged some odds and ends in my spartan apartment. Then I went to Antonica. There were people in Antonica asking for help with difficult foes, such as the Windstalker Rumbler.

Once I worked up to about 20, I started asking in 1-9 and 20-29 for groups for Crushbone Keep, Stormhold, and/or Fallen Gate. By being flexible, I was able to get a dungeon group quickly every time I asked. We particularly cleaned up on masters in Stormhold, but Crushbone Keep was the motherlode of AA and XP... I got 5 levels in one session in there.

I have noted in 1-9 a great many end-game players asking to come mentor a low-level quest group. The older player needs AA and gets the fun of exploring quests they missed the first time around, you get a seasoned player who likely knows the zone very well, and much fun is had by all.

So, my advice? Dive right in, the water is fine.

I don't count upper level charaters making lower level AA runs because I don't find the nature of it healthy for the game overall but that's a bias based on more than you are asking. Until the APxp slider goes live though, grouping levels you fast and it takes a bit too much diligence or back tracking to catch up for my tastes. I answered biased to what you said about soloing and I still think you'll end up doing more than you want, especially in the current 70-80 game.

Play any class except maybe summoner right now. They all have their strengths and moments so unless you're looking for an assured raid spot, going for the least played isn't going to make a difference. If you have a desire to stand out, Coercer or troub maybe but I see just about everyone respectably represented.

What playstyle do you find fun?

Well Im an x raider, use to put hours a day into whatever game I played : /. Now I tend to just want to take my time see everything that a game has to offer, everything from that very first quest and very first boss fight to pvp to the hardcore of the hardcore. As for play what I enjoy to play I've been known to play all forms of classes so Im good at everything and enjoy everything and tend to like to take the least played class to show people its not as bad as they think.
