Actually, EQlive never really went into strong detail of who Master Wu was. We know he was a human monk of the Ashen Order, and wandered around Norrath to further his training and enlightenment.

The books you find in Desert of Flames about Master Wu go into great detail about who he was. Information that not even I had known about until I read them.

The Monk Epic goes into further detail about him. While wandering the deserts of Ro, Quellious came to him and tought him Arcane Combat, the form of combat arts that all fighters and scouts use today. It focuses mana and power into power to back up the physical attack itself.

Master Wu only taught it to the monks of the Ashen Order at first, and was weary to teach it to others, including allies such as the Qeynos Guard. Eventually though, he did, and the teachings of Arcane Combat probably helped Qeynos' soldiers fight better in the 2nd Rallosian War.

However, it wasn't too long that Lucan took over Freeport. He captured and interrogated a user of Arcane Combat and eventually learned it for himself, allowing his own forces to learn it.

It is through Wu's teachings at his encampment in Lesser Faydark that the Fae themselves were able to learn martial arts.

The monk epic teaches us that Quellious would eventually take in Master Wu and transform him into the Demi-God of Enlightenment. She even gave him his own planar domain of Enlightenment. When she had to abandon Norrath with the rest of the gods though, she had to take his plane to help protect her own domain, but allowed him to remain as a demi-god.

Now if you ever fight the Quellious Avatar encounter, Master Wu is the final enemy. Quellious gives you the chance to stand down before you fight him though. I hear you get rewarded if you do.

Hmmm...where are these books? What are they called?

Otherwise that is all really cool information, I thought the arcane combat guy was a different monk though, not Wu...

and Do you have any idea what kind of reward she hands over?

Down beneath T'Narev in the water in Pillars of Flame, is a group zone called the Cave of Wonders, if I remember right. There is a monk camp inside the zone where you can pick up 3-4 books about Master Wu.

You can also find some more books in the tower in the village of Shin. Ask the Whistling Fists historian for copies of the books he has to offer.
