I just rolled a Necro last night on Nagafen. I'm starting in Gorowin? I play very late night early morning PST and know no one in the game at this point. I will look for a guild when I get around level 20. I played the game but back around 2 years ago.

I keep reading how in PvP everyone targets the Necro and not his pet. Any way to stop this? What are the tips and tricks for solo PvP?

Also some suggestions for my first 10 AA points is appreciated.

Any guilds looking for a hard earner and can teach me some tricks?

At what level can I reasonably start looking for a mount of some kind?

Thanks,

In game as Krys drop a hello.

First of all...good luck! : P

I will give the same advice in the [Removed for Content] Solo thread I gave:

Pvp setup depends how you wanto play...there are 2 options really...

1. DPS them to death before they kill you...use mage/scout pet

This often relys on using fears/stuns/roots/snares to keep them off you while you and your pet attack your oponent. Lifeburn (endline AA ability) is also very helpful here as it does very nice damage quickly...Personally I don't recommend this as if, one of your CC's is resisted it often means instant death...Also, be aware when using LB as it has a long cast time and takes from your own health as well (so you dont want to start casting it if a scout is up in your face!!!)

2. The other option is the tank pet setup

First thing you want to do is put 9 points in sta, this will give you a 60s knockback, and a 10s taunt for your pet. Use this taunt every 10s, or when necessary...this will keep your oponent on your pet rather than yourself. Of course any knowledgable player will just retarget you after you taunt them, but sometimes you get lucky enough where they dont realize for a few seconds, or at the very least you interupt their attack on yourself, so you can get a fear/root or something off...Some people say the pet taunt locks the target for 2s, but I haven't thoroughly tested it From my experience, it seems like that is not true as it looks like they can retarget me immediatly...

I used the tank pet setup and it is a lot of fun. I've tried the dps stance, but after using the tank pet so long, I feel naked w/out it.

After I got 9 in sta, I got lifeburn next...now I'm putting points into the line with the fears/roots and such...(forget the name)

Toughest class you will fight is an sk, all your dots will kick of his health shield, and usually they can out dps you...lulz...but necros can be a lot of fun, and really shine in groups!

Of course, the most important thing is to get a set of MC gear, and have all your spells at expert or master level! Necros are tough enough to play, you better have the gear/spells to back you up.

You will also find, the higher you level, the tougher it will get for you. Lower levels I destroyed scouts easily, now in t4/5, if they get close enough they can take me out in a few seconds...But remember, solo pvp is unbalanced for a lot of classes, and you will shine best when playing with others. Learn all of your spells and you will do well.

I am horrible at playing my necro PVP. Here's what happens: I go out into the world, someone attacks me, I try to cast back at them. If I can even cast, I can usually get them down to 90% health and I die. I send in pet if pet's not already on them, I cast fear. Sometimes I cast Chains of Torment if my health isn't low or I'll cast Lifetap at this point if I'm dying then fear again. I cast Vampire Bats then Lifetap. -- usually dont' get too much casting done after that because I'm dead.

I wish to respec. I have 87 AA.

I went down the Int line full force investing max points to every ability.

In Summoner I went down STA line getting max STA points and the 2nd ability and third abilities. I like the Knockback for my tank pet. I spent a few points in STR that I can probably get rid of--I got those so I could use a 36-slot strong box when I was low level.

In Necromancer I spent max points in Rotting and received Lifeburn. I spent many points in Manipulation to try to get Tainted Heals but I've not got enough points for that.

In Shadows I put 5 points in Ample Harvest, 5 points into + health, 1 point into mount speed, 5 points into making my Health buff (shield icon) increase my health pool larger and 5 points increasing the damage of Soulrot. One point improving cast time of Chains of Torment.

Any advice is appreciated.

Reroll.

Necros are stongest in the lower tiers, it gets worse as you get higher. If you can't do it now, you aren't going to do it at higher levels. Your AA choices are horrible also.

Also, Azekah, Perceptor's Command is a taunt-lock. Every 10 seconds you can lock the target onto your scout/tank for 2 seconds. It can resist, but if the spell lands, it always locks target.

These abilities are good for PvP:

Animist's Transferance (WIS2) - Pet must be in range.Perceptor's Command (STA3) - Does not work with mage pet.Shockwave (STA2) - Only works with tank pet.Magic Leash (INT2) - Mage pet onlyParrying (STR3)Minion's Warding (INT3) and Cabalist's Cover (AGI3) are great when they work, not so hot when they don't trigger at all the whole fight.Enhance: Chains of Torment in the Necromancer line is good, Root Mastery in the shadow's tree is horrible because it increases the length of immunity... your root will almost NEVER last to full duration, because almost all our spells are DoTs. That spell needs to be changed to only break on the first hit of a spell. No other mage has this problem because they all have only a few DoTs. Same deal with our fear.

Tainted Heals is useless in PvP, don't bother. So are all the other Necromancer tree end-lines except Lifeburn.

Lifeburn is different in PvP. It doesn't hurt (or hit) anywhere near as hard as it does in PvE. It still does alot of damage, but it can only do 60% of your target's health in damage, so it drains enough health over 10 seconds to do that much damage... which is usually not much

But like i said, if you dont have atleast 2 kills for every death on a necro before T7.... just reroll.

Paikis wrote:

But like i said, if you dont have atleast 2 kills for every death on a necro before T7.... just reroll.

tbh, his description makes me feel like he has more of an issue with pvp itself than the class.

TsTech, the best thing I can suggest, if you actually like the necro class, is to reroll a necro. Once you hit 12, get a sec of MC, and make sure all of your spells are Adept III or mastered. Use some of the tips in my previous post about using the dps or tank pet and pvp from level 12 up. Every 10 levels get a new set of MC and make sure you always have your upgraded spells ready. You should be able to farm yourself enough plat with your 63 to do all this.

Turn of your xp and level from pvp only...this way you will learn your class inside and out. You need to know how each spell works in pvp, and learn/practice tactics that will help you succeed in pvp.

And the lower tiers is where you will have the best advantage, so its a good place to start : )

Otherwise, pick another class, but I would suggest doing the same thing.

Well, I am back to report good news. I really like the Necro and am sticking with it. PVP is a lot more fun now that I'm winning more often.

First, I changed my outlook on PVP. I'm in Predator mode. No more just waiting for a Q to come stomp me. I'm always looking around for someone to pounce.

I made some changes to my AA and leveled a little bit and I must say I really really like it. I went with the STR and INT lines and spent lots of points on +STA and +INT. I got some MC gear plus some legendary gear and fabled gear with + spell damage. What a difference that made too! I got rid of the points spent in manipulation and enhace chains of torment. I added more points to the buff that increases my health and disease resists.

I bought an AA respec mirror to have 2 sets of AA stats: one for PVP and one for PVE. My PVE spec has some of the utility stuff like Ample Harvest.

A big change in my PVP kill to death ratio happened when I received the spell Undead Horde at 65. What a difference this spell made! An adult man can take on a 10 year old child in battle, but cannot take on twenty 10 year olds. That's the same concept I use when I think of Undead Horde. The spell effects read:

-Summons 2 limited pets to aid the caster

-Summons 10 limited pets to aid the caster

+ More from nearby corpses

So if I'm attacked, my pet defends me. I then cast Undead Horde, that's 12 pets. If I cast Blighted Horde, that's another three. If I cast Awaken Grave that's another pet. That's me plus 16 pets! That's like a Raid X3 force of weaklings but it gets the job done.

After I first got Undead Horde I ported to my guild hall and crafted the Expert version. I then went out to Sinking Sands for some harvesting and just to see what I could do. I play late, not too many people were on. I started camping to another toon to craft some T2 armor when a random blue-con Qeynosian came up to me and began beating on me. I used Undead Horde in PVP for the first time right there. It was amazing. The poor guy had 17 pets on him and his health just melted away. I got down to the red and cast Lifetap. The Q died and I was back to orange. With the Q still targeted I performed a /violin and camped again. I was excited and had a lot of fun that battle. Whoohoo!

Good to hear your doing better and enjoying the class!

the unfortunate thing about pet spells is that if your target goes invis or fd, the pets lose thier target and then become fluff pets...

so they don't work well against scouts/brawlers...

Last night myself a 69 Necro plus a 71 fury were working together to find all of the Draconic runes for To Speak as a Dragon. We were on the way to Obelisk of Lost Souls via the Commonlands. I zoned in first and ran to the griffon tower and took it to Nek station. Before my Fury friend made it to the tower, a Qeynosian scout jumped him and this was a really unexpected surprise. My fury friend kept himself alive until I landed at nek and flew back. When I got back, the Q was red to me and was killing my friend. I couldn't attack him until he attacked me. (I still need to figure out the PVP rules). I cast undead horde first. The scout must have FD or something because my undead horde wouldn't attack him--they just stood there. I really wish they would fix that. I cast Blighted Horde and Awaken Grave and Lifetap and stacked a few dots. Got him into Orange after about 50 seconds of fighting. Then I cast lifeburn and victory was mine--couldn't have done it without the Fury there to heal me though but I really didn't expect to win against a red-conned Q.

Thats kind of odd. You should never have a restriction from hitting a red. But yea, teaming up with a healer makes a summoner very happy : )

I've heard that the pets may be getting swithced to dots? I'm not sure, feel like I read that somewhere. Anyway, that would help a lot.

Kind of like the single pet a sk could summon, it looked cool and all, but whatevas :p
