what steps have you tried from the posts on how to run eq2 with Vista?

Primarily try right click the icon and Run as Administrator

There are others

1. like placing the eq2 directory outside of the ..program files directory

2. utilizing the new station launcher application

Do not understand the comment of the machine being below minimum specs, the processor alone is 3x's the 1ghz minimum spec (1000 mhz = 1GHZ)

go into your MB bios and disable speed step

your computer , especially when not running 3d apps will slow your CPU so it uses less power by downclocking it .. this is probably what is happening .. it may be automatically downclocking it below 1000 mhz ..

This really sounds like a Vista issue. Make sure you have gone through the following steps:

1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.7. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".8. Right click on the icon and select "Run as Administrator"

That should resolve the issue in most cases.

On a completely unrelated note: Gradorin, the character in your signature reminds me of a sketch drawn by Rob Liefield. I think it's the mouth that does it.

The ..Program Files directory is tightly controlled with the UAC on, it tends to cause issues with some applications and frequent updates.

No SP2 is not installed, will do that, only problem is now, everytime i log on to EQ2 i keep freezing up and getting BSOD's now, and at one of the times when i logged back onto EQ2 playing for about 10 min, the game froze with an error message about something about EQ2 cannot operate because of some memorization....so im guessing my RAM is defective? Iv been getting nonstop BSODS about driver problems, disk defragment/antivirus/back up utitlty and driver problems, and also some IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR EQUAL message as well.

any help and repsonse will be appreciated.

(am RMAing the RAM just to be on the safe side.)

If the machine restarts on a BSOD you can go into advanced properties and turn off this function. The text would be helpfull

Can someone tell me what UAC and SP2 are? I am having a similar issue to the original poster. I just bought a new computer and I got the cpu speed error even though my speed is much greater than that. I tried to ignore it as many have suggested but it will not download the updates and there is no option to play the game or go to character select.

Thanks in advance.
