I play on the Runnyeye server.

Everytime I log on, I have to wait an hour to download a patch. Each time its roughly 1.5Gb. So far in the 11 days of this broadband billing period I have used 3x the average monthly data amount.

Using the Everquest2.exe to bypass the patcher does not work - it tells me that the version numbers do not match.

Are you really patching the EU servers this much or is something going horribly horribly wrong?

Edit: Im using the Station Launcher, and the files that are being updated are a whole pile of .VPK files.

This probably won't be the issue, but if you ever set the file properties to read-only (ie back and restore to DVD) then the files would never update and therefore keep installing each time you play.

But there is probably some other problem. I would post at the tech forums for the Station Launcher, that is a separate product from EQ2. I also find the support there pretty good. You can find that here.

nope im not going back and forth to the test, US, JP or any other servers. If I use the normal patcher I get the same problem. I have now patched 3 [Removed for Content] times today, about 4.5Gb. This is really *&^$*#ing me off.

And you should be posting this in the tech forums for answers.

Are you running Vista? If so, right click on your EQ2 Icon and "run as administrator" - should fix it.

I was having a problem with the patcher not working correctly the other day after the update. It kept patching and patching the same files repeatedly. I called tech support, and was advised to try using the new Station Launcher instead. This solved the problem for me. It might be worth a try. Here's a link:

http://launcher.station.sony.com/

OK an update. I logged out of Sataion Launhcer overnight and it didnt re-patch the files. Here is what I think was happening. I think it was auto-patching to the US version when the computer was idle, and re-patching to EU when I went to log back in. There is a setting in the station launcher that allows you to keep the versions for "EverQuest II", "EverQuest II (EN)" and "Vanguard" automatically updated. Only "Everquest II (EN)" was selected. I have now turned them all off, and I'm logging out of the station launcher when I log off the game. I have been using the Station launcher for well over a year and never had any issues. I suspect that this is only an issue because the US/EU versions are different at the moment. I have a work around, so all is good. Thanks for all your suggestions.

You did not say that you play on EU and US servers at the same time Duplicate the eq2 stuff into another directory for playing on the other region and you will be fine. As you already noticed the patching is caused by the difference in code base of both region, which might be resolved on wednesday.

And yes, this happens to all who play on both English regions, it is not a problem on your end. Actually the problem is all the way at the other end If you would play on a non-english server you would get a directory structure like "...EQ2LP_REGION_FR" where your French files would be located. As there is no difference between EN_US and EN_EU everything lands in the same directory, hence the patching everytime you switch. You can use this feature if you want save some time before the next patch, ie. switch to EN_US when the US servers are patched, patch and go to bed. If(!) the EU server are patched the next day you are already set and do not loose time. Just this time you got the short end of the stick

I dont play on both servers. As stated in the original post I play on Runnyeye. What I said, was that the PATCHER seems to be patching backwards and forwards betweent the GU52 enabled US servers and the NON-GU52 EU servers.
