Hi all, i recently bought a Phenom, 1.8Ghz cpu, Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT video card, using vista 64. Whenever I try to load eq2 I can get to character select or, if i choose a character in the patcher screen, can begin logging into the game. However, when i get to loading ui settings (or right before then occasionally) the entire system freezes and i hear a kind of humming or static from my speakers. I have to force restart my computer to clear it.

I tried with both Profit reborn and default.

Ive already tried deleting the files the tech mods suggested in another thread (cache, eq2.ini, etc.) and redownloaded.

I have the newest drivers from nvidia.

Im using a wireless router. Im going to try connecting directly to see if this is affecting it, but I have connected wirelessly in the past with this machine with no problems.

I have the normal firewalls that come preinstalled, and a norton 360. ive disabled.

edit- i did a couple tests and im pretty sure its the wireless. Im using comcast and a netgear wireless router.

You're right, it does seem to be a connection related issue. Have you tried setting port forwarding for EQ2 on your wireless router? It's certainly worth a try.

i haven't tried that. I got to my router's settings and to the port forwarding setting, but i dont know what to do next. It asks for a service name (eq2 i assume), service type (tcp/udp, tcp, or udp), starting port, ending port, and server isp address.

Here's the whole piece of port forwarding information we offer (probably more than everyone will ever need when referring to the IPs near the bottom).

--

EverQuest II LaunchPad and Patch Servers A TCP connection is initiated from the LaunchPad client port > 1023 to patch.station.sony.com port 7000. A UDP connection is initiated from the LaunchPad client port > 1023 to sdlaunchpad1.station.sony.com and sdlaunchpad2.station.sony.com port range 3016-3021 and 9700-9703.EverQuest II Patch:A TCP connection is initiated from the EverQuest II client port > 1023 to patch.everquest2.com, abepatch.everquest2.com, laepatch.everquest2.com, or amspatch.everquest2.com at port 7010. Some of the above patchers resolve to multiple IP addresses, so if you have a strict outbound firewalling policy, be sure to check for all IP addresses using a DNS lookup tool.EverQuest II Game Client:UDP connections are initiated from the EverQuest II client port >1023 to servers on UDP ports 9100, and UDP ports in the range 32800-33000. Additionally, ICMP messages type 0 (echo reply), 3 (unreachable), 8 (echo request) and 11 (expired) should be permitted bi-directionally between the client PC and the EverQuest II servers.EverQuest II Servers Subnets:There are multiple IP addresses for the Patch and LaunchPad clusters, and they may change as the network demands, so check often using a DNS lookup tool if you provide a specific firewall rule for these services. The EverQuest II server IP addresses are currently in these subnets: 64.37.158.*, 199.108.11.*, 199.108.12.*, 199.108.13.*, 199.108.202.*, 199.108.203.*, 195.33.135.*

--

-And yes, EQ2 would be what you want to place for the service name. This should help your issue!

Ex: 192.168.1.103 - If you're unsure as to which IP you need to place in that field, you can find out through the Command prompt. The easiest method is just typing CMD in your Start Button search bar and pressing enter from there.

When that window appears, type 'ipconfig' (without quotes) and the IP you'll want to place in will show there, under a similar formatting to my example. Hopefully that helps!

I have a similar issue as the OP, but I have not upgraded my computer, changed my router settings or changed anything in the past couple of years. I can describe the same symptoms but with only one toon after a power outtage. I can log into the game with 3 other toons fine, but this one gets to the loading resources to around 35%, locks up, and gets kicked back to character select screen.

I have deleted Eq2.ini, eq2_recent.ini, ui settings for the specific toon, cache folders, ui folders, scanned all files twice.
Having very similar issue. My Laptop which is right next to me can log into the game just fine on any toon... However, if I try to log in on my new computer (that I built from scratch, mostly in order to play this game at a much better quality of play...) i can only create new characters, if I log in an "old" character, I cannot get past "Loading UI resources"

Port forwarding is NOT an issue... I had that resolved when I moved into my apartment.
