I skipped over Heroic Steel and went straight to the Champion's Mirror. The set bonuses make a big difference until you can get some better, non-void shard gear.

Personally I think the shard armor is crap due to low resists. The resists are just out right crap compared to VP gear and lower tier RoK raid gear. If you have most of the plate gear from RoK raid zones you dont need the shard armor for anything but taking up space in your bank inventory until you upgrade it to the t3 shard armor while working on the TSO raid gear. Yes, it is "only" heroic legendary quality gear but still - at least have 3 resists as was pretty much the standard - 2 resists is just kinda lame. This gear really only is used when you need increased mit at a loss of resists/avoidance.

Now my newer tanks Pally and bruiser to reach t8 shard armor si just fine as they are not established and raid geared yet with table scraps from main raiders but I'd rather have my guards gear options than a single set of tso shard gear: I like to carry vast quantities of gear to mix and match for each encounter - not be tied to the los of a certain amount of mitigation for a 5 piece bonus set. Really: why is there no reinforcement bonus on TSO gear like VP gear?

The t2 shard gear is by far the way to go.

There are 2 resists we care about before all others, and particularly in TSO:

1) Mitigation

2) Hitpoints

The 5 piece set of T2 is undeniable compared to VP/RoK gear.

Get your T3 set out of WoE, and I run around with 4 pieces of the x4 gear banked =/

It appears that they made the tso 3 shard hybrid gear (obsidion/steel - excuse spelling) so that you have to use a buckler to get the bonuses. That just screws me out of the water. Can anyone verify for me if there is a place to swap it for the champion/lawright (spelling) gear anywhere?

hate to necro this but what Shard jewelry would you recommend? Started with stone tower set, but was thinking of the crippling or onslaught. is there another def/tank line of shard jewelry?

well just hit 80 and mainly soloed him to that level. To be a tank and do shard instances to get the good gear, since no one wants ROK instances anymore, I need gear. I was using MC or some of the legendary pcs from questing or named drops.

The problem is while the Shard Jewelry has great defensive stats, it leaves much to be desired offensively. And you could be the best defensive tank in the world, but if your offense is low you're going to struggle with aggro.

The only piece of shard jewelry I found useful, offensively, is the Onslaught Earring. The Onslaught Wristband is also nice.
