I tried logging into Everquest2 a couple of days ago and got hit with a long game update download. It never finished downloading and the estimated time only continued to go up. Eventually I got the progress bar almost completely filled... and then it continued denying me Closed the client, tried again. Still a long download.

Was there supposed to be a long download added to the game in the past few days or so? I was able to log in earlier in the week just fine, the game was completely updated and playable.

Now it's stuck in an infinite loop, counting down 4 seconds on the estimated timer before going back up 4 seconds, then doing it again. There's only 17 minutes left on what was estimated to be an 11 hour download. I know that canceling it will start the entire process over again, but it doesn't seem like this download will ever be completed if every time it gets near the end it stalls out like this. I was able to play the game fine a few days ago. What's the story?

Cancelling doesn't usually restart the whole process, it picks up from the start of the file it was downloading previously. Have you checked that the directory to which it's dowloading has write permission?

I'm not sure but eventually it stopped looping and canceling whenever I closed it. It appeared to be re-downloading all the content for every single expansion. I didn't see much of a way around it so I let it do its thing. It took a long time because I don't have the best internet access currently. Then when it's almost done with what seemed to be the last expansion pack it got to a file that it refused to download, dbghelp.dll. Whenever it tries to download that file it gives me an error message: This application has failed to start because mss32.dll was not found. There seems to be no way to bypass this file and the rest of the files will not download and the game is unplayable. I don't understand. A few days before this I was able to play fine, and now I haven't been able to log in for almost a week with downloads running around the clock =/ It's really frustrating and not the best thing to come back too when I'm trying to get back into the game. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Greetings!

That file is generally associated with the Miles Sound System that is likely having some issues with your system. I would recommend downloading the file from this link and placing it in one or both areas: The EverQuest 2 Main Directory and the C:WindowsSystem area.

Please let me know if that helps!

Well apparently my good fortune has run its course lol... today there was a different issue. Booted up the Launch Pad, it started downloading that dbghelp.dll file again. This time the issue was: Please run the EQ2Settings utility in the same directory the game is installed in.

I checked to make sure that the EQ2Settings application file was inside the Sony/Everquest/ folder. It's there, so I'm not sure what the problem is >.<

That's very wierd - I would, at this point, lean towards the possibility of it being an issue when the game was installed. If you could, would you attempt installing the Station Launcher and try completely re-downloading the game through that method?

Or, if that's what you did already with your current EQ2 directory - please inform me as such!

Hmm nope. I haven't tried installing the Station Launcher and then redownloading the game. Maybe I'll do that at some point if the current workaround I found stops working. I just went into the EQ2 folder and clicked on the 13.9 MB size application, and it loaded a different login screen that bypassed the LaunchPad completely. I just logged in and it brought me to my character screen. As long as that keeps working I'll just do that I guess, since I'm kinda over downloading stuff for the time being. Having to redownload all the expansions for no clear reason was enough for my slow internet connection lol =)

Thanks again KenC

Glad to help! That method of starting the game will certainly work to play up until the point where there's a patch for the game. So how long you can go about doing that method is purely up to our development team.
