When i play a game i always look for the Big ugly IQ of about 25 mentally underdeveloped meat shield. For a long time that was a Guardian. I quit the game just after we killed our first avatar. The reason i quit is the Guardian is no longer a big dumb [Removed for Content] meat shield that i used to love. I dont want to jump around asking for dps buffs to prove my worth on a raid. I want to be Fat-Dumb-Slow and Drool for 4 hours while i take damage like a champ. The reason im posting is that i looked up a few Guard friends and they have quit for what seems to be the same reason i did. I guess we cant be big and Fat for ever. Good luck to the ones that have to fight to keep there MT job.

The game evolves, and most tanks have asked for, and gotten, a more dynamic and complex role than "meatshield". You almost got your wish with the aborted fighter revamp, where they were planning on reverting fighters back to defensive taunt-monkeys, but thankfully the tank community (and other players) sent them a loud and clear message that it was a bad idea.

Players either choose to adapt, or they leave. Personally, I don't really even have an issue with small transitions in terms of class balance; my problem is that SOE loves to use a sledgehammer, and to them every class issue looks like a nail for them to pound away on. Shadowknights were the weakest plate tank class in the game, but rather than smaller incremental changes, they were catapulted into first place and are basically unmatched at this point. A lot of SKs claimed that they "deserve their time in the sun" because of how long they were kept in the dark, but that's not the way to balance a game properly.

Guardians unquestionably need some love. However, is SOE going to be smart about it, or simply reproduce the mistakes of the past?

The reality is that the current condition of fighter balance is not that far off...but its far off enough to make it seem like its totally broken. There are countless small tweaks, adjustments and yes some of those would be "nerfs" they could be making that would provide a rather significant boost/fix. But like you said they appear to only have sledgehammers in their toolbox and no screwdrivers.

They went overboard with "fixing" SKs....too much all at the same time....from what I experienced in game the SK class was not as bad off as the magnitude of buffs/fixes they got would indicate.

Much like the magnitude of changes SOE was proposing with the stupid fighter revamp they had greatly exaggerated the magnitude of the problems.

Things are not so broken or bad that a few tweaks cannot fix.

Seems like everyone wants a "swiss army knife" class, everyone does a bit of everything. My ideal class would be a Guardian that cant even use a weapon when in defensive stance, He must use 2 hands to hold the massive Tower shield. " I wish there was a 2 hander tower shield.

Good luck holding aggro with no weapon. I hope you have some really nasty mama jokes to keep the mobs on you.

If they would boost warriors hate Single/Multiple I would not care if they left Crusaders where they are now. My only issue with crusaders is the amount of agro they have over warriors with little effort.

I lvl'd a SK to 80 just to see how the tanking was, and good lord i can hold aggro alot better than my zerker. I havent played my zerker now in about 5 months because she just cant simply hold aggro to save her life. Every now and then my SK will have issues holding aggro, mainly against those with there Myth's.

I ran a pally to 80 just to see if the grass was really greener on the crusaders field - with 2/3 less gear hes a champ. I can run w/o a dirge, w/o a hate transfer from a swashy or assassin and hold aggro off 2 mythical warlocks, a brig, and a wizard with a templar healing me. I ward myself while timing auto attack that hit usually 200-1k harder than my mythical guardian (pally is using NSS and has about 400 less strength gogo crusader auto attk bonus). I have amends, holy ground, and grp siphon all of which I can cycle + being a dwarf I have 8 Blue aoes (counting my racial aoe) - with holy ground and those aoes aggro goes nowhere it does not need to be for more than a second. The guard has a much harder time with the same grp. We should not have to rely on others to do our job - that was part of the point of the fighter revamp: I'd rather be a taunt monkey than a aggro pin ball machine. We are going on 6mos + with no answer from SOE as to fighter aggro issues.

I take alot more damage atm but that is purely due to gear discrepancy - I urge all SK and Pallies to run a guard to 80 and see the difference. I also have a bruiser so I can understand all 3 basic tank issues and by far guardians are at the short end of the stick for plate tanks atm especially in the arena of heroic content. Leveling the pally was by far the easier of the 2 toons to solo with on quest aa runs too.

SOE needs to get busy doing something becuase guards are being pushed out of their primary job by tanks that were designed to be DPS machines overhualed with more immunity skills than Shakira has shakes.

guards don't need to become a spam taunt class... they just need their superior single target agro back. there was a time that if a warlock would steal a mob from me(and yes it happend plenty with good locks) i could simply tab to that mob and gain control with in a acceptable amount of time.. now? if a rescue of some sort is not up.. tower of warlock!

tbh i think getting that DA back would be good enough since it would place most guards close to 90% DA with current gear but i would not be against some other type of hate buff or auto attack bonus with a shild like crusaders got.. i mean seriously.. you read that abiilty and it screams guard =p either way I'm just sick of serching for all the right classes to run crap easy instances.. and tbh i usually go wtih what ever and stress out the whole run from the ping pong game...
