After reinstalling my Vista (64bit) i get a runtime error 217 when pressing the "Play"-Button in the EQ2 Launcher.

This happens everytime i try to start the game. The strange thing is, that when i acknowledge the error by pressing OK the game starts as usual and everything seems pretty normal.

I did some research via Google and i found out that this runtime error is somehow connected with the c++-runtimes and a conflict between 32bit and 64bit versions of the dlls.

Therefore i installed first the 64bit c++ runtime package and after that didn't help i tried to install the 32bit versions as well. Again no effect.

Perhaps someone had the same problem in the past or could help me out on this?

TIA

PS; Although the problem is not very critical (after all the game starts right away ) it's a bit unnverving, because the runtime error is always followed by the Windows diagnostic service and this thingy costs some time to close...

Are you running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2? If not, that could be part of the problem. Try following these steps to ensure that your computer is running the game with the correct options:

1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.7. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".8. Right click on the icon and select "Run as Administrator"

Can you check if EQ2 is installed within the Program Files(x86) folder and not the normal Program Files folder? As EQ2 is still technically a 32 bit program, it should automatically have been placed in there but there are times where will be installed elsewhere, which may cause some problems.
