I love the lore of EQ, both 1 and 2. That being said, as I level (currently 65 atm), I'm always looking for cool deep lore quests that better help me understand the background going on in both that specific area, as well as the world of Norrath as a whole. I understand that all quests offer their own lore in some respect, but my question is thus: are there specific quests that someone actually interested in the lore should be doing as a minimum? As in certain timelines in zones, one specific quest, ect?

Also as a side question, I hear reference to EQLive alot and have no idea what this is. I took a large break from Norrath between EQ1 and EQ2 by playing WoW for a few years, so it's possible I missed something. Is EQLive just another way of saying EQ1? Or is it something different entirely?

EQLive is just another name for EQ1.

The quests I would suggest any lore freak to do are the Heritage quests, ESPECIALLY if your a big EQ1 lore junkie (as I am). Each Heritage quest generally have more involved stories and some are really interesting and many of them involve at the least tidbits and some liberally from EQ1 lore.

Other than that, I always get a kick outa reading the different L&L books, they always provide unique insight into each of the different races (I particularly liked the Di'Zok one as it gave alot of insights into the creation of the Iksars and Sarnak).

Those are the best lore quests, imo, out there for EQ1 nostalgia purposes.

A few of the more recent Heritage quests sure have made up a LOT of new stuff just to justify it's existance. The Shiney Metallic Robe for example. It really has no lore in itself, so they made some up for it.

Otherwise... yeah, Each expansion and overland zone has a general storyline that follows a mostly linear path in that each quest NPC usually sends you to the next one to continue on. All the expansions have a storyline.

Oldworld has the Prismatic Egg storyline.

Desert of Flames has the Peacock/ Ewer of Immortality storyline.

Kingdom of Sky deals with the Qeynos Claymore

Echoes of Faydwer deals with the Soulfire, the sister sword to the Claymore.

Rise of Kunark doesn't have a blatantly obvious storyline but eventually uncovers an ancient Shissar calendar that depicted the end of the world.

The Shadow Odyssey acts upon that revelation as we are now fighting off the invading force that would cause the end of the world.

There are a few quests that Vhalen left for us in the game before he moved onto another job. He used to be the head Loremaster for both EQlive (given when SoE described Everquest as a "Living, breathing, Ever-changing world") and EQ2 for the first 4 years.

If you'd like a little mystery in your life, I suggest you check out what is going on in Nektulos Castle. Vhalen asked me to write up the clues for this one.

Also go to EQ2wikia.com and look up major story arcs. Do as many of those as you can to get a lot of background info on current events. The storyline arcs have a lot of lore invested in them as well.

Most of the epic weapon quests are very lore intensive.

Also the book quests in game all offer a story about EQ2. A lot of lore as been revealed this way but you don't necessaraly have to do the quest yourself, just find people with libraries and peruse at your leisure.

Oh sure, just go look it up. Take all the fun out of finding it out for yourself. >_>

The fun is in DOING the quests. Wikia only tells you they're there, it doesn't really give much (if any) lore background.

Yep, if you want the lore you do the quests and read the text. Wikia helps you find the quests in the first place...
