All

I've honestly tried all the recommendations here, but at the moment I just have UAC off and the Windows Firewall off. But, no matter which directory I am in and if I do a right click and run as administrator (or just run it normally), the game doesn't start. XP SP2 Compatibility mode is selected as well before you ask.

Each time I run it, nothing happens, but if you go into task manager it does show the process.

ATi 4870X2, latest Catalyst from this May, and I did a full download and reinstall of DX last week. It would be nice to actually try the trial, and the number of days left in it is going down even though I've never even been able to play it.

Specs:

ATi 4870x2, 6GB Memory, Vista X64 (business, but have dx installed, and AoC and other games work), 640GB dedicated drive for Vista

Have you tried going into your eq2 root directory and running the Everquest2.exe file just to see if the game runs .. maybe its just the launchpad that is messed up?

Well, the first sentence does say I tried that.

But, no, it won't run from station launcher or from the directory, no matter what I do.

The error you're describing usually means that the game is getting quarantined by an antivirus program. Try disabling any antivirus you have on the computer before loading up the game. That will tell us whether it is the cause of the problem.

Regarding the trial time you have, you could always just open a new account as soon as we get this technical issue worked out. Trial accounts are free to create and there's no reason to start playing on an account that already used up half of the trial.

However, I did disable Windows Defender, but I still get the same error. Process shows up in task list, but the game never actually starts.

So is this game just not Vista x64 compatible? There has to be some rhyme or reason here... I did try booting into the XP32 partition, and the game runs there, but this is the only software I have so far that isn't running in Vista for me. As shown above in my post, I've tried all the known workarounds to get it to work so far.

I am having the exact same issue... I have the actual game and have tried installing it the game installs and say complete I try to run the program and it brings up the little SOE screen. It loads fine until it gets to "Recievefile_auchpad.exe" then it loads the skinny top bar all the way and the bottom fat bar half way then just stops and the SOE screen goes away and nothing happens i have turned off all virus applications including windows. Is it true that the game just won't run on this system???

What motherboard are you using with that computer? I have heard that some people are experiencing this issue with some of the Nforce motherboards. Aparently there is an Nvidia firewall that can enable itself and it will shut down connections without any kind of warning message. If you're using an Nforce board then you might want to search through the options to see if a firewall is hidden there.
