So, i've been searching the forums here and on eq2flames. i've been unable to find anybody that really has any recommendation of what the minimum stats you should have for tanking different areas. i mean, T1 raids are obviously significantly lower than T2, etc.

I'm just wanting to know what mitigation %, avoidance % (and if block/parry/base make a difference, what those should be). Further, what should my self-buffed hp, spell-damage, spell-crit, melee crit, haste, etc. be at? I'm just trying to juggle a crap-ton of stats, and figure out which are more important than others when starting off

I've got almost full T1 zealot shard armor (didn't get the boots, because they're craptacular imo), plus some random legendary stuff from quests and dungeons. i'm a really new 80, and it's my first toon on this game. my guild has been taking a hiatus from raiding for the past few weeks, due to some lost members 'n change of leadership and all kinds of other silly stuff. but, we're starting again soon, and i'd like to be useful. any suggestions would be welcome. if there's a link out there that i managed to miss (it happens. but i've been looking for something like this for a few days now) i'd be appreciative of that too

my stats in def stance:

mit: 5039 (57.3% overall, 58% slash, 56% pierce/crush)

avoid: 6456 (41.8% overall, 19.9% base, 21.7% block, 7.2% parry)

DPS: 2

Haste: 35

Melee crit: 41

Double Attack: 24

Spell crit: 92

Spell damage: 420

Crit mit: 2%

Shield mod: 30%

edit: also, very sorry to make my first post be a question asking for help. i try to avoid that, honest!

Your avoid looks pretty low.

So yeah look for some +def, +parry gear for jewelry slots, and maybe a better shield (don't know what you have now).

Your mit is OK for T1 shard armour. Mine was maybe 62% in full T2 (c. 6000). But my T2 avoid in defensive gear was also over 60% self-buffed (c. 10000).

If you set up equipment macros you can toggle between offensive/dps and tanking gear with one click out of combat.

mit: 5039 (57.3% overall, 58% slash, 56% pierce/crush)

Pretty good. With armor Syphon/Transfer, raid buffed...push for 62% min. and up (66% + preferably). Good for T1-T3 & early T4. Try to push 66% and up for T4 on. After T1 & T2 zone gearing...you should be easily around 6500-7000 (with zero shard armor). Don't worry about the Shard Armor until either A) you start doing TSO zones (since the pre-TSO mobs don't require crit mit anyway), or B) you can jump to at least some pieces of T2 shard gear while adding TSO raid crit mit gear. Tons of the T1 -T3 & early T4 gear is better than the shard armor for mobs that don't require crit mit. Keep building up shards though for the transition to TSO. Mix and match for best effect (HP, Avoid, Mit, DPS). Adorn your gear.

avoid: 6456 (41.8% overall, 19.9% base, 21.7% block, 7.2% parry)

This is low. Try for higher protection value shields and every bit of parry gear you can...+defense after that. Raise AGI as well, where you can. Adorn your gear (+ parry forearms and wrists are good). Sheild one as well, if you feel the need. I see quick gains for you from Parry alone (7.2 is lowish).

DPS: 2

Not an important stat really in itself. Concentrate on holding aggro and surviving first, DPS "for the sake of DPS" second (levels of DPS, not the DPS mod stat)...and when you get to the DPS focus, look for Spell crit & DA first, Melee crit second, and + spell & + CA, then DPS & haste after that (imo)....the last 2 stats are easier to increase from groupmate buffs than from individual itemization.

Haste: 35

see above

Melee crit: 41

See above.

Double Attack: 24

See above

Spell crit: 92

See above

Spell damage: 420

See above

Crit mit: 2%

very low for TSO raids, irrelevant for pre-TSO. The higher the better once you get into TSO raids. You can get by with none on the early TSO mobs (first 2 named in ToMC, First named in PoTAO, etc). 10-15% for even them would be easier, and increase as you head deeper and get better/more crit mit gear.

Shield mod: 30%

Good, but if your block is that low with the shield mod...you need a higher protection value shield.

For a SK that just started raiding your avoid is horribly low.. get it up to 60... Are you using adornmants? Highly recomend getting your T1 up to T2... least start with the shoulders for mit increase... If you really want us to look at your gear... need a name and server hehe.. What is your str and int at cuz they better be close to each other... I see that you have high spell crit.. dont lose focus ei. tunnel vision when looking at your stats... You lose out if you dont balance it out some... Btw I think you are over your cap in spell damage...

oh and for good reading about aa's...

http://www.eq2flames.com/shadowknig...lease-read.html

Thank you all for the quick, prompt, and useful replies. My name is Kelwin, on Permafrost. I know i still have a ways to go, but you all have helped provide excellent things to focus on and immediate ways i can improve. i do not have any adornments yet, but having some +defense and +parry made since those seem to be what i'm lacking the most.

edit: can you explain what exactly the shield mod % does? you say that my shield mod % is good, but that i need a higher protection value shield to get more use out of it. what is the actual relation between the two? i DO think i saw this before, but i can't seem to find it again now.

After looking your toon up... Umm you are here by forbidden to use level 50 food and drink!!!! When tanking it is highly recomended you use avoidance food... Work on your fabled epic... do the Thuuga fabled questline... Start keeping at least 2 pairs of armor/jewelry for tanking and for dps mix and match accordingly for resists.. Do the ROK instances for easy gear.. TSO instances are better but a bit harder.. Get on or do some of the easier RoK and SoH Raid content for gear... Do all the RoK and TSO quests for better legendary gear and aa... Dont focus on spell cast reduction... you want spell and melee crit as your top focus...

So a 10% shield mod on a 1000 protection shield makes your protection 1100.

The areas I see you lacking for your avoidance is in the Block (which comes from shield protection) and your Parry. I don't necessarily focus on the +defense stats myself....instead make sure you have the +Parry% on your wrist items if you can afford them, get your epic and get the +riposte adornment on that, than go get one of the descent shields that drop like candy out of the instances. The higher the shield protection that much more your shield mod % will make a difference.
